At what speed should I be running when using a 2 row Allis Rear Mounted Drill Planter? Also, what should I adjust the rear wheels to with the turning lever in center of the two planters? I guessing the planter should be setting fairly level? Thanks

No faster than a horse can walk.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Thanks. What about adjusting the screw lever handle in center that moves he closing wheels up and down. Is there a certain spec that I’m supposed to be setting them to?

The operators manual for the planter explains how to set the depth with that crank.

Don’t have a manual. Hoping someone on here does that can explain it or knows from experience on how to set it.

I have the skids thats Mounted onto and around the shoes to control depth, but needing to know where to adjust the lever that turns and raises and lowers the 2 wheels in the rear. I’m guessing this controls down pressure on the wheels.

I have seen drill planters changed to three point hitch have trouble holding the right depth,
if you can hold the three point at the same depth after lowering it down every you lower it and yes that lever is how you can set the 1 1/2"/2" on the planter.

I would think 2 1/2 to 3 MPH would be plenty fast for that age of technology...……...

Growing up I worked for a farmer that had one mounted on the WD 45. He ran it at a high throttle in third gear. He said he could plant faster than anyone with a four row planter. You could here it clicking off the drops and never missing a beat. The corn always looked great.

Go slow.2 1\2 to 3 mph. Gear up. Throttle down. No need to be wide open. It pulls real easy.

Thanks for all the reply’s. Helps out out! Should I take the skids off the shoes & just use the lever for controlling depth or leave them on and set the lever at max depth? Thanks for the picture out the manual as well!

Do you happen to have a picture that will show and explain the gears? Planter worked great, but may want it to space the seed little closer than it is now. Thanks

Rule of thumb is the bigger the driver gear is or the smaller the driven gear is, the faster the shaft will go...

Measure the circumference of the planter wheel and give the wheel one turn, catch the corn and divide that into distance traveled and that will give you the seed spacing.

Whole machine looks good and it sounds like it works well too, would think not easy to find someone to put that rubber on wheels.
