Any tips on rebuilding the pivot on a hydraulic auger rebuild?

The pivot point on the unloading auger. Where it swivels to raise and lower it. It looks like a big ball bearing.

Just buy a new one. It's called the "swivel".

I'll follow this thread. It seems interesting.
Are you rebuilding/replacing it because your auger fell off? I've had several guys tell me that happened to them. Edited by CrestonM - 05 Oct 2017 at 2:12pm |

Mine has the same issue and the auger is half off right now. I think it was messed up a bit when I got it. The tracks filled up with bean dust, dirt, rust, and some ice. The balls started falling out and the auger started working its way off. Like the doctor said, buying a new one will fix it, but I'm hoping I can clean it up and put it back together with new balls to save $800. Here are a few other threads:

That first article says the swivel relies on grain dust to lubricate it. Can that really be true??

When you finish at end of season, oil the balls with ATF or other thin oil so the balls and races don't rust during the year. Run auger out and in a few times to get it all oiled. MACK

I just put 13mm balls in mine. I bought them off ebay. 125 of them.

BUT, the ball track is worn in a couple of spots, so it isn't really fixed like new. Also, there is to be one empty ball space showing when assembled.

If its available, buy a nylon swivel from Sloans Express. Nylons strips replace ball bearing design. When replacing swivel, place new swivel into a deep freezer for an hour or so before assembly. The cold shrinks the swivel so it easily slides into auger tubing. For lubrication, drill 3 equally spaced zerk holes on outer face (meaning auger is in transport position) near nylon track area. Grease these everytime you grease universal joint & bin shaft journal. Like others say, clean it out, grease it, & operate it a few times before storing it.

I got the auger back on the machine after the new 13mm ball install. Although it is not new. It is usable and will probably be good for many years as long I keep it lubed up. I think I paid $36 for the balls.
