I'd almost bet the contacts are bad in the solenoid. you can get it off without removing the starter, them back side bolts can be difficult, but can be done. take apart the solenoid and check the contacts,,the battery post can be 'turned over',, the circular contact thing,,,well I take a file to 'em and smooth 'em up. if this don't work,,,, well you just out some time...
denso starter at ASAP: rebuilt is like $479,, rebuilt delco is $395... hope this helps ya out... |

Thanks Michael...I'll try that tomorrow...It had been acting up for a while...Most times I could jump the starter and sometimes the button would work...Now it's doing nothing..Guess it's time to really fix it

I don't think that you are "jumping" the right terminals at the starter to see if it will engage. Small terminal with white wire to large post with the battery cable should make it spin. Make sure that it's out of gear,in park, and maybe even try it with the fuel off. That will tell you if the starter itself is any good.

If you do end up needing a new starter, check db electric. I have been pleased with their prices and products

Take one of you battery jumper cables and connect it from the negative side of the battery to one of the starter mounting bolts. That will eliminate any ground issue. You should be able to make the starter engage by jumping the solenid terminal.

If the starter spins, but won't engage, I would pull the starter to check the Bendix drive. I forget the size bolt head use to hold the starter, I like a 3/8's drive and extension with a swivel socket for the back side bolt.

Safety start switch on clutch. That is how you check dash lights, with clutch up, push starter button and dash lights should all light. Connect safety start and it will spin over. MACK

Could also be the safety switch on the PTO valve, sometimes the terminals will get a little corroded, and will keep the tractor from starting. I've had this problem in the past.

Rarely does the push button fail. You might also check the engine harness to cab harness connection behind the engine on the right side. Large white wires.

I know it's been along time since I've been around a 7000 series, but I guess your right, the PTO would not stay engaged if the engine is off anyway. Now you got me wondering what I'm talking about.

Push button don't go bad offend. Wire ends go bad quite often. Connections get corroded from heat and dirt. Check connections on big white wire from push button to starter. Good luck. MACK
