Well first off I would like to say that I'm a new member. I have been reading a wealth of info on this site. So my father recently purchased a D17 series 4. It is a really nice tractor, it also has a Allis 500 loader on it. So we were in the process of changing the exhaust manifold, and the nuts are rusted to the studs. Well I thought the studs are coming out not a big deal. Not till I pulled the stud and antifreeze came out. I pulled three other bolts out to see and it was the same thing. So my question is are these supposed to be tapped into the water jacket? If so what kind of sealant does a guy use on the bolts? Once I get this figured out I have to tackle the hydoualic pump seals on my ca.

Very normal...use pipe dope compound or RTV sealer or permatex or use nothing....if there're in tight they won't seep long and plug up with rust.

Ya that can be scarry, I use pipe dope the white stuff that comes in jug with brush attached to the cap-- works for me.

Use Permatex #2. It is a dark green sealant. Seals water or oil and will not leak at all. Does not get hard with age so will come out nice if you have to remove later. Pipe dope is okay as well.
