    Posted: 22 Nov 2011 at 8:57pm
I have a wd45 I am rebuilding and would like to get a few more rpm's out of it.  I have read I could change the govenor spring to a D17 or a 175 spring.  What would give me the most rpm's thanks!

if you are just looking for the most rpms, the 175 will do it.

D17 spring approx 2000 rpm...170-175 spring approx 1800 rpms....all are based on a properly adjusted/synchronized governor....improper adjustment yields different rpms.

I wont argue with you... but my 45 runs 2200 rpms with the 175 spring. never tried a 17 spring.

High Idle rpm is not governed rpm. Full load rpm on a d17 is 1650 and 1800 on 170 175 and 1400 on a wd45.

Is the spring that hard to change?  It looks like it would be a pain once the rad goes in.  I ordered a D17 spring - maybe I should have got the 175 spring.

I ordered one from AGCO last year. it comes as spring and plunger. the AGCO catalog has 1400, 1600, and 1800. listed. takes about 1/2 hour to change with the raditor  and hood still installed. I used a needle nose visegrip to hook the forward end. there is not much room.

Our WC with a 45 engine and 17 spring runs just a tick over 2000 rpm and idles real nice at about 700 rpm.
