I’d like to get an allis or DA field cultivator. I don’t do a lot of field work so don’t need anything huge. I have an 8050 to pull with but my question is what would be the limit for 200 or 6080. Didn’t want to get something only one horse can pull. Or dumb question, if you had wider one that wings folded up. Can you operate cultivator with it folded or would it damage them. Do I want a 1200,1300 or 1400. I want to get smooth field for hay field.

Find a 1200 that is less than 20 ft wide and all the tractors will pull it wings down.

Ideally you want a DMI or even a CIH (the new CIH are red DMI’s) on a limited basis I’ve pulled my 24 foot 4600 with my 6080 on limited occasions with the wings folded up haven’t tried the Tigermate on anything orange yet. Without a crumbler the 24 foot was perfect for the 8030 and 24 foot and a crumbler would be about right for a 8050. Keep in mind trip force of the shanks plays into what you can pull newer cultivators have higher trip force witch is good.

The AC 1200 is a good FC. For other smaller FCs, I’ve also had good results with the similar aged Glencoe FC. It’s 3pt, 12’ wide, 3 rows of shovels, & mounted spring teeth harrow.

If you have any residue, heavy bean stubble, make sure the one you get can handle it. 
I have a Will Rich and a 4800 Caseih, both will handle residue pretty well, the harrow will be the problem area. the 4800 has 5 rows of shanks, the Will Rich has 4 rows of shanks.
Both are 24 foot, 8050 handles both easily

Depends on what you're conditions are, AC field cultivators become a big dump rake when you're dealing with residue and stalks. We had a 20ft 1200 last year, 6080 was working hard to pull it and 8050 played with it.

My gut says running with the wings up is a bad idea, lotta bouncing around compared to running down a smooth road........??????

There is a helluva difference between 2 inch sweeps and 7 inch sweeps as far as residue flowing thru the 6 inch spaced shanks. Also a big diff in how hard they pull.

Meh. . . I did it once when my Allils was down.  Not that bad, they're built pretty tough.  And what is this "smooth road" of which you speak?

I have a 24' Allis 1200 with folding wings for sale that i used behind a 190xt with no problems.  Like has been mentioned, they plug up quick in trash, but it worked pretty good behind a disk.  Where are you located?  It's in central Indiana and is for sale pretty cheap, needs new hoses for the wing cylinders and new tires on the front depth gage wheels.

I used a maxed out for width 1200 with coil tine levelers behind a 6080 fwa with duals.  I recently used a 25' 1300 without levelers behind my 8030 fwa with duals, both became rakes in heavy trash so I recently upgraded to a 21' 1400 with Willrich spike tooth levelers to clear the trash.  I should mention I made sure the 1400 had the narrower shank spacing option of 7".  Thankfully someone repainted the DA from green to orange.  The 1300

I have two 1400 cultivators and retired my 1300 after pulling it for 42 years. Narrowest 1400 is 24' so may be a one horse only for you but will handle the trash many times better than a 12 or 1300.
