Tom lives close to us. Belleville Il, 30 miles east of St.Louis. He is a John Deere delear with only 1 location. Raises Belgium horses. Has a large collection of horse equipment and old farm items. Collects muscle and 4x4 tractors. Has a fall show at his farm every other year. They demo new equipment and moldboard plow.

I am simply amazed how he, and hundreds of others around our great and currently free Country, have the finances available to be able to purchase, restore and then keep in sheds all these pieces of equipment. Even when paid for, they ain't free to have sitting around in buildings. Property taxes, batteries, and on and on.

It is really nice to see the correct detail of these tractors. I bet Tom could give 10 minutes of history on each tractor in his collection. Very nice there is a record of some of his collection because someone took the time.

Tom never sits still. Imagine restoring old iron may offer his JD dealership shop a steady workload? He also farms. His large grain farm also has cattle & horses. Got to think most, if not all of them are income tax right offs. And that lends itself to a nice retirement nest egg that he enjoys by using them each year for fall tillage days(more fun). Win - win, as long as they’re insured.

Guess it shows how much money is not floating around but stored up in personal holdings? Without the cost of tractors or restoring them there is a huge investment there for sure. I work part time for a fellow similar to that who grew up on a farm and made it big time in the used truck business. I am the caretaker at his "farm" and what he spends to store and maintain a massive collection of antique trucks and tractors is tremendous. Nice part time work for me to keep them running, clean and ready for him to hop on and take a short drive |
