I'm looking to get serious horsepower out of a wd 201 engine and don't have a clue where to start. Trying to out pull the JD guys will be no easy task without HP. I want to build it right and big the first time. Where do I start and how big can I go? I feel nothing less than a 100 hp is what it's gonna take and bigger is always better at least where I pull at. Any suggestions of a good guy that builds these engines or where I can start would be helpful. Thanks

To get 100 hp, you are going to have to go to a stroked engine.
Try to contact Marty Nelson (wi50). He occasionally has some stroked 201's for sale. |

I'm game for whatever it takes. Around here guys look at you strange for pulling in at the pulls with a orange tractor and I wanna give them something to watch on the track. I have a bare clean wd 201 block to start with either myself or a professional builder could get started on it. I'm not certain on what I would be looking at cost wise in a way it don't matter as long as I get what I'm looking for in the end. Do they make a stroker rotating kit for the 201 like I got for my small block mopar when I built it or does everything get pieced together as you go. I was able to build my v8 with basic engine building knowledge cause the kit came with all you needed to achieve the 500hp.

So, money is no object ? If you want reliable, useful information, tell us about the speed limit, and all other pertinent rules your pulling with. I've always put together tractors to fit the rules, and let the tractor decide what weight class it felt frisky at, and I seldom was disappointed. Every setup has a sweetspot that it prefers, and HP is only as useful as your traction and balance and ability to guide it down the track.

At least start with a very late model WD block, that is solid above the center main bearing saddle. WD-45 block is better. D-17 block/crank is the best.
