Topic: F2 Header will not raisePosted: 14 Dec 2016 at 8:44am |

So I got the combine all cleaned up, and ready to take the corn head off, and I cannot raise the head. We have a little stand that we place it on, that allows me to easily hook and unhook. I went to move the combine today, and I can only raise the head about 1 foot.
The fluid reservoir reads near the upper arrow, and I have full motion on the lever in the cab. Thinking that there might be a link out between the cab, and the valve body, I pulled and pushed on the rod coming out of the valve, and I get the same results. Can anyone give me some things to look at that might help solve this? Thank you. John |

Check your belt tension on the pump. It doesn't take much for it not to work.

Back in the day when I used to run an "F" unless you increased the RPM's it was hard to get a corn head to lift. Even put on a new hydraulic pump and it wasn't a whole lot better. I always figured they just didn't have enough pump capacity for the weight they were lifting. Platform didn't seem to act that way...just the corn head.

You drove it to where it is and it was working. Tighten the pump belt and maybe the engine front countershaft belts if so equipped. Full throttle on the engine speed.

All,
Thank you for the advice. The machine is at 2400rpm when I am trying to lift, so it is not engine speed. The belt has 1/4 inch deflection, so it is pretty snug. I would have to take it apart to see about the poppet, but don't know what I am getting into if I open her up. Any other advice, or I am taking the valve assembly apart? Anything to watch out for taking the valve apart? John |

Check the header lock valve next to the cab. It only shuts off one cylinder. If it's shut off the header will raise a little bit until weight and suction from the other cylinder stop it from going any higher.

Well I feel like the ass of the day. It was the header lock by the cab door. I can't believe I overlooked that.
Thank you to everyone who assisted. From, your dummy of the day |

There's only one reason why I knew that. It wasn't a lucky guess. So don't feel bad. Your not the only one who has done that.

Not sure every machine had them. The FKS I had was a 1973 model with the valve.

I think the valve was only used on machines with header control on it if memory is correct.

Have had 2 77 f2s with the valve. Both had header height control.
