    Posted: 22 May 2012 at 10:32pm
I was fooling around with my transmission control cover the other night, dislodged a shift rod and sent, what I beleive was a rod detent, off into the woods. Can I pick up a replacement detent and spring at any tractor parts place or is this a special order from somewhere?

Thanks,

TC

Unfortunately it needs to be the correct one, so you will need to find a donor tractor, or call AGCO.  Fairly often a cover will come up on ebay.  You will probably be missing a spring and a ball.

The detent is a 3/8" steel ball. If you remove your dipstick to the left side of the dashboard ahead of the gearshift (when sitting in the seat) notice there just might be a small cotter pin located about midway on it. If so, remove the cotter pin and throw it away.....there should be a ball up inside the tube which is the correct size. You'll have to bend the dipstick to the side a bit to remove the ball out of the tube. You do not need to replace the ball.

So Dr. Allis, where do they hide the extra third gear?   :-)
