   Just got a nice D-17 series 4. 
1-Book says use type A trans fluid in hydraulic. Can I use hydraulic/trans fluid? 
2-The lift arms won't go down with nothing one them with tractor running. I've gone through the settings in the book and it said takes 200 lbs to take then down. That doesn't make hooking up stuff user friendly. I don't want to ever use traction booster. Is there a way to just bypass the whole traction booster system? I read about the two part pump and wondered if I plumbed the traction booster line in with the main pump would the just give me more flow and do away with the booster part? 

Side note, wife likes it so well she things we should get a second one.

	Modern day universal hydraulic oil is fine....don't mix Dexron and it tho. Lift arms on a snap-coupler require you to stand on them with engine idling ( or shut off)while holding the front outside lever clear forward to lower them. When you rev the engine back up, they may come back up slowly due to NORMAL back pressure in the system, and there's nothing you can do about it. If they come all the way up and make a squealing noise when they hit the top, you have linkage stuck underneath the console.

	I have the same problem with the arms not going down, and it lifts when the tractor is running. I have not had time yet to look into it yet.

	With lift arms going up and not lowering, it is caused by the traction booster linkage pushing against the valve. After 40 some years, some rust has gotten into the part that activates the valve. Best thing to do is take it apart, clean up all the rust, use plenty of anti seize and put it back together. You will be good for another 40 years.
