So maybe he wanted a smaller mower to work some tight spaces.

i would be interested in exactly what is wrong with the drive over decks?  I think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Mine is a 1026r with turf tires.

Maybe the quality has gone down. I have two green mowers and I would not own anything else. Yes I like them that much. One from 1977 and the other a 2000 model. Neighbor has one from the big box store and it's a POS but then again she changes the oil every five years.

I saw on TV how JD builds a zero turn in 70 minutes....probably charge 7K for it too...nice profit.

I gave up on the one tractor, multiple implements idea. Too dang hard to swap stuff! Too low to ground, too hard to get back up....sigh..

Now I have a dedicated riding snowblower, a grass cutter and soon a GT loader.Since none get year round use, they 'should' last longer.....

Why the heck do they charge $7000 for a lawn mower?

Because they can.

I agree with DJ, but drop that old green thing off at Les's place. His wife probably wouldn't make him hide it behind the shed like that dozer he acquired or was gonna acquired. She might be real happy with it. I know i'd be real happy if that dozer was a sitting about 40 miles straight east of his place.

You aren't buying the same machine if you get one from a big box store vs. a dealership... that is about all I know about the JD stuff, except that the drive over decks that i have attached were pretty nice, as long as you get lined up right it is very simple to unhook/rehook them.

Not true. JD Big box and dealer lawn tractors that sell the SAME model number are the same. No doubt JD Dealers sell other models (higher grade/ quality) that big box stores don't sell.

Stan, right. Our JD dealer, if you ask about a lawn mower, that's his first question: Do you want an economy model, or do you want to spend more and get something that will really hold up for years.

I believe the big box stores only sell the 100 series mowers and you will have to go to a dealer for any series higher than that. The 100 series is much, much cheaper in cost and I believe in quality compared to the same size in a higher series from the JD dealer. It's the old saying, you get what you pay for.

Ah, I see now. EmbarrassedEmbarrassed
So you can buy garbage at a dealer, but you can't but really good stuff at a big box store.
