You mentioned that I could either use a electronic generator cut out switch or a mechanical one.
What is the mechanical one

The "mechanical" one is the one pictured above.. It has a MECHANCIAL set of contacts that OPEN and CLOSE like the point inside the distributor... The ELECTRONIC One is a Solid State Box.. Enclosed in plastic with a CHIP that does the OPEN- CLOSE...

If you want a REAL Mechanical on, you can use a light switch or toggle switch.. Turn it ON when you want it to charge ( when running) and turn if OFF when you stop the motor.. You have to remember to turn the switch OFF, or the battery will run down, just like it does now.

Where can I get a soft shifter knob.

My tractor popped gears again so I had to pull the shifter to fix it.

It had other plan, it shot up smashing me I. The lip.

Had to get stitches.

Think it's time to get a shift knob

I found out that the hand clutch doesn't seem to work and I think it is because of that ring part I found in the hand clutch housing.
I think the part is the snap ring. Is this something that I can fix without splitting the tractor. If not that ok I won't worry about fixing it as I have a second ac wd45 that I can use for making hay. I've decided that if it is not 100% needed for the tractor to run correctly I won't fix it until I get the time/money to do so. As long as I don't have any other problems I think the tractor is ready for fair

I am trying to figure out how the fender lights where hooked up. It's not something I'm worried about fixing right now but it bothers me that I can't understand it.

The lights that it used to have were wired to a 6 volt 3 pin flasher and the switch is mounted in a box on the left fender with the flasher. The switch is flat and had 3 wires built into it. The lights were not hooked up when I got the tractor so I have no clue how it worked. Again this is not a question I need to ask but I am confused. I don't have actual photos but this is what I described

3 wires on the switch means it probably is left turn / right turn.... if you just want to FLASH BOTH, then you could use a toggle switch...

hunter, you would have to figure out how you want it to work.. Your dash head light switch will be the POWER to the lights.. Do you want that switch to turn the head lights on ???   Or do you want to run that power to the SECOND SWITCH and have head lights in ONE position and FLASHERS ( and head lights) in the other position... or do you want the second switch to be TURN SIGNALS ? ......... Several ways to wire it up.

the little switch in the box could be TAIL lights in one position and FLASHERS in the other position.... assuming the 3 wires are  a two way switch

to use turn signals and flashers, you would need a different switch and probably bulbs.

You can have tail lights, and flashers using a single filament bulb and the two way switch you have.. Your stock resistor / head light switch has a "LIGHT" terminal.. that feeds the head lights and also could feed you rear light switch... Turn the rear light switch one way and the rear tail lights come on... Turn it the other way and you run the power thru the flasher and then to the lights.... You have to know what terminals are each on the switch and the flasher... I think the third terminal on the flasher is the ground... see the drawing a few posts up..

if you just want TURN signals, there is a drawing several posts up on how to do that.. your switch would be ON- OFF- ON ..... ( or left, off, right).......... the problem comes in if you want flashers then you have BOTH bulbs on at that same time... Either you use a SECOND SWITCH, or you get a very complicated switch like on a car... Even most of them have a SECOND switch you pull out to turn on the flashers..

Is your present switch a CENTER OFF with a position on each side... or is it a TWO WAY switch... Just ON left or ON right ?

I dont see a good way to "PRINT" a topic from this forum.....You would have to "COPY" each post and then "PASTE" it into another program, like PRINT, or other and save each PASTE until you have a total document.

I "right-clicked", selected "PRINT" and it gave me the option to print the thread (11 pages!). I'm sure you can custom print just the pages you would like.

yes, you could do that... use the 3 position switch to chose TAIL or FLASHER... then a switch on each light to turn it ON  or OFF when the flasher is going.

This is just an idea, but why couldn't he use a switch like out of a 180 and have one flasher come on in position 1 (normally low beams), the opposite flasher on position 2 (normally high beams) and both flashers and headlights on in position 3 (full lights)?

It might require two flashers.

The other downside would be that he couldn't turn on a signal light with the lights on.

Would the shown wiring diagram work like I think

When the head lights are on the fender lights are on and Solid. When another switch is flipped the fender lights flash.
And when needed flip the switch on either fender light to signal

YES.. if you bought a more expensive switch like WF said, you might be able to do everything with one multi position switch...  You can also use 3 individual switch for  TAIL-  FLASH ............... then the two toggles to switch from  FLASH to individual TURN.

as shown, your DASH HEAD LIGHT SWITCH has to be ON to get anything on the back to work.

YES... but then you have tail lights ALL THE TIME... Unless you replace the ON- ON switch with an ON- OFF- ON switch so you can turn the rear lights off....

The drawing above, the headlights will be on whenever you have the tail lights or flashers on.

Ok I just thought of a solution to that. I can cut the wire and splice it with spade connectors and have it on only when the wire is plugged in. This idea is represented in a blue bracket

Or replace your ON- ON switch with an ON- OFF- ON double pole double throw, center off switch ( 6 terminals) and then you can turn the tail lights and flashers off ( in the center position)... and get power from the battery, not the head light switch.
