I know I should have done this long time ago but I'ma gonna claim that,,,Chit happens,,,,,
I have talked with United Healthcare that is endorsed by AARP, but thay are kinda pricy. I keep hearing an ad on Mark Levin and Rushbo bout MEDI-SHARE, which is a Christian based group where all members "share" your out of pocket expenses left over after Medicare's 80%.  Gonna try to get to their web page and do some more looking into the specifics.
Anybody here using them,,,??? Plus's,,,Minus's ,,,,???

Got some friends that use Medishare and they like it. I would stay away from anything AARP endorses. I have Tricare For Life through my military retirement and love it.

Hey Hubert,,,thats what I keep hearing bout AARP, that they are very left leaning. I have heard that Rush does NOT like aarp but has never said ,,,Why??
The only'ist reason I keep their membership is that we get a pretty good discount on our home insurance but am goin to start checkin all those details out,,see if I'm really savin any money to keep supportin their leftist leanings. I'm kinda likin the Medi-Share plan,,tho.Clap

Hey Thanks Chris,,,Is your plan just you and your wife,,????

Joe,
Wife will need to chose a supplement plan this year. I think she will go with the same one but you never know!:)
My agent says folks are selecting this plan over several others, he carries them all.
A lot of this depends on the medicines your prescribed too. If you have serious health problems then one plan may be better than another. I was happy to go to a agent that explained it and did not try to high pressure any particular plan.

Regards,
 Chris

 Hey Guys,,,sometimes I'm terribly slow,,,old age ,,I guess,,Wink Some follow-up questions if Ya'll don't mind,,,,,
As far as the Medicare Supplemental Health Insurance plans out there, I'm lookin ahead (something I should of done long time ago) due to my wife's ongoing health issues and myself included. I'm concerned the wife is going to have to go to a Nursing home and that will be very expensive due to Medicare only paying 80% of those costs.
I have talked to an agent with MediShare and they sound promising at first look.
Hey Chris,,if you don't mind me asking,,Which Plan do you currently have with Aetna?  Costs per month? Do you have a big deductable??  Sounds like you are satisfied with it. Clap
Same questions for Tom , please,,,Clap

Joe, YOUR insurance and your WIFES has nothing to do with each other. Medicare is an individual thing. You can have the same company and same carrier , or it can be separate.  I am 65 and seldom get sick and don't take medicine. I got a plan from Humana for $97. a month.. Covers a few things more than Medicare, but not the whole 20% extra... Now the wife is 62 and has 3 years to go. She goes to the doctor once a month and needs new knees, and takes 14 different kinds of medicine.. When she gets to Medicare we plan to get her a BETTER plan that will cover much more, since she will use it.. May or may not be with Humana............. I see FULL COVERAGE plans that were $200- 250 a month.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Joe, the BIGGEST decision on who you choose depends on where you live...If your in the big city, then the packages are called HMOs and they cover the doctors and hospitals around the BIG city.......... If your in the country your access may be more limited. Packages are called PPO and they check to see what local doctors and hospitals will cover you under Medicare.  At least this is the way it works in Illinois. When I checked MY area in the country, the packages at Aetna and Blue Cross didn't cover some of the doctors, or the local hospital , or Health Center ... I was getting 2 of 3 were covered.. I went with Humana for that reason. Their package was more for local coverage. ... Make sure you give them YOUR doctor, YOUR hospital, and where do YOU get medicine ? Wal Mart, Pharmacy, ??? ............. Each company covers things a little differently.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Joe. There are so many different names and letter designations that you need get thru it is really hard to understand.
I don't have any health problems so I just have a basic medicare advantage plan from priority healthcare for $18 a month.
My wife has lots of health problems so she has a medigap plan F from Mutual of Omaha that is $252 a month plus a separate mail order prescription plan from Humana that is $20 a month. Both of those have been good. Before Obamacare messed with the healthcare I had  really good healthcare benefits from my retirement that took care of everything now I have a healthcare account that they put some money in every year which helps and I have to go buy whatever I need.

I guess my insurance thru retirement is different than what you guys get out there.  Our insurance is "Self + 1"  Not much more than a one person plan.  It is an HMO, Health Maintenance Organization.  We pay co-pays for Dr.s and Prescriptions.  I was looking at the bills for my recent cancer surgery, near $250K, I paid maybe $200 for co-pays.  I wasn't old enough to have to have medicare then.  Now that I have medicare I only needed to sign up for part A, I'm not required to get any of the other parts, my HMO has to pay for everything.  I'm happy with the situation!  Isn't "self + 1" available for you guys thru supplemental plans?

Joe,
A year ago or more, I think the cost was $30 per month. Currently I believe its $0 per month. It can change with how the company is doing and what they want to charge you. Yes you and your wife can have unique supplements due to health issues.

United Healthcare's CEO makes around $20 million a year, back in 2010 he made $102 million, mostly stock and such, still he gets a couple million in regular pay.  Don't think he has ever cured anyone or discovered a cure for something so I'd say I wouldn't want to support such a company.  Of course I'm a bleeding liberal who most of you wouldn't talk to except for our AC connection!

Well John, I'll try and straighten you out the next time,,,,,when we have time,,,,,,,might have to be over a few beers. Wink
Can't help ya Joe,,,,,,,,we have our supplement here with the local hospital.  They are BIG and have satellites all over the place.  Covers almost all the little stuff but pills (I don't take any) are expensive until you reach a $5000 limit.  Yes, 5K, then they kick in.  So yes, check with the local hospital and see if they have supplemental insurance.

Joe, check with Humana.   We are both mid 70's.  Humana works from or Medicare $$ only.  No supplement.  DR visits are no additional cost nor is blood work.  Specialist is $40 co pay.  Meds are called into the Humana pharmacy in Las Vegas and mailed to us at no cost.  They call a month before to resupply.  My shoulder surgery a couple years ago cost me $250 out of pocket and $35 per visit for weekly rehab visit.   We have no  complaints for the service but we don't have any major medical issues YET!!!    Hope you fine something reasonably priced.   Armand

What Armand is talking about is called an "ADVANTAGE PLAN"..... what you normally pay is $135 to the Govt thru your Social Security ( monthly), and then get a SUMMPLEMENT for part B and medicine part D.... What the ADVANTAGAE PLAN does is the INSURANCE COMPANY takes care of the SUPPLEMENT (B and D) and the MEDICARE Part A and B so you don't have to deal with the Govt... the Insurance company does it all... Somehow they have access to the $135 you are paying to the Govt for Medicare... In ADDITION to this, they might charge you $0 - $100 . for the additional coverage.  If your health and live near the city, your  bill under the ADVANTAGE PLAN might be $0.   I live in the country and not near doctor or hospitals... my plan is $97 for that coverage.  Normally the more you pay, the more the coverage and the lower deductible... Sounds like Armand got a great deal.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Get the Medicare Handbook - it has the listing of all the plans in your area and whatthey do cover or a link to their sites .
I have had U-care MN for 12 years now and pay $54 a month and it just changed what is covered - no co-pay now for doctor visit where last year it was $20 , specialist is $45 ,
I had a similar policy for wife before she passed and no problems with anything , she hit the Medicare donut hole on drugs in 3 months back then -
Now even the drugs I take I use a Sam's Club premium membership and it takes another 10% or so from costs on many .
Friends wife is using that Christian Share plan but she is under 65 so no Medicare, but they have paid her bills or least part of them
