Wheel weights for CA

I could not afford the $375 for the only set of CA rear weights I have been able to find.  I already have the tires filled with methanol and water, and I needed more weight.  I heard that farmall cub weights would work.  I did some measuring, and determined they will.  There is a local yard that parts those out, and they sell the weights for $60 a pair.  They bolted on just fine with 1/2" x 5 hex head bolts.  They don't look originial, but for a working tractor they will be fine for me!  The cub weights are 130# each.
I also made a couple of front weights out of plate steel.  I had a local shop with a CNC torch cut them.  It wasn't cheap, but they were still less than new cast ones.  The outer plate is 1/2" thick and a little smaller that the wheel bead lip.  The inner is about 11-1/2" around and 2" thick.  Both plates have a 6-1/4" hole to clear the hub.  They weigh 60# each.

	Both definitely look functional. Thanks for providing a viable alternative to the more expensive AC weights. You did a great job!

	When you get the picture in the file manager, click "preview". It will show up with a height and width number. The width needs to be under 800 to fit the page so divide both original numbers by say 4 in this case. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 21 Sep 2016 at 3:44pm

	I found a set of rear weights off of a Case VAC and with some lath work I made them fit. I had to take some out of the centre of the weights.

	Dang! I need to sell my genuine CA wheel weights if they are worth $375 a set. These and the CA engine side weights add up to half what I paid for my CA

	Those weights look GREAT ! but...yeah, there's a but.... Please use large carriage bolts, head goes on the inside of the rim( square hole) AND check to be sure each nut is TIGHT,say once a month or so. I have 4 D-14 rims with fractures from those square holes that I say can from 'loose' wheel weights. Maybe not real loose but juuuuuust enough, that over time have destroyed those rims. Yup, another 'winter project', grind ,weld, regrind,paint times FOUR...... Jay

	I 2nd the carriage bolts with the head on the inside of the rim. On a WD45 a 3/4 carriage bolt fits perfectly into the square hole. I had to order from fastenal to find a 3/4 bolt that long.

	We had a set of wheel weights for a '56 CA. Not sure what happened to them. Looked hi and low for them on the farm and I can only suspect someone wanted them more than we did. At that price, I can see why. Still have the side weights.

	I'm not sure if those weights are worth $375 or if thats the going rate, but that's what the only set I've seen for sale is listed for. They have been for sale for a while! As for the carriage bolts, The holes on the weights do not line up for those to work. The weight bolt spacing is a little smaller. The holes in the weights are 1/2", and using hex head cap screws the bolts fall in the inner corners of each square hole. I will make it a point to check the tightness on a regular basis. The tractor really works better with the weights. I will try the preview feature on my next picture post. Lynn

	I zoomed in and looked closely at that bolt hole in the rim. The bolt underside to the square hole would really scare me with the weight you are talking about on that rim. I would re drill the weight or the rim so they match up if it was mine. When that wheel stops or starts that bolt is going to bounce in the square hole. Like was said above those rims take a beating with weights.
