And what do you tow with it for weight?   For my tractor hauling, I started out with a Chevy 1500 with a 18' 12000 lb. trailer but the biggest I had ever hauled was a D17 with that setup.   I now have an 02 Ford F250 with the 7.3 powerstroke and am looking at upgrading my trailer to a gooseneck, mainly because my D19 doesn't fit on the current trailer that well.   Was wondering what you all have for towing rigs, and trailers and/or what you would recommend.   I don't want to go too big, but if I'm upgrading to a gooseneck, I would like to go a little longer and make sure it's a 8' wide deckover for wider tractors, etc.   I have found a couple used 12000 and 14000 lb. gooseneck trailers and would like to know if that's fine, or do I need to be going heavier.

I currently have an 04, F350, with a 6.3L Powerstroke dually, always use cetane booster and Ford oil filters.  The truck is licensed for 24K, so I ordered the trailer with two 7K axels.  With the weight of the truck and trailer I can only legally haul around 14K so I opted not to spend the money for the 10K axels and all that extra rubber.  I am considering upgrading to a small Freightliner with a small living quarters, gooseneck hitch and an enclosed gooseneck trailer.  Put RV tags on it and travel until D.O.T. finds a way to stop that.
Maximum use of available resources!

I tow with a 97 F-Superduty (pre 450) 7.3 DIT with lots of  mechanical and computer grades, it is as much a toy as my tractors are.  It will easily pull, and stop anything that should be hauled on my 18' 14,000 GVW gooseneck trailer.

I started with a old body style dodge that had a cummins in it and a  24k lb gooseneck dual wheel tandem axle. Problem with the dodge it was three wheel drag, once you got off the blacktop you might need to unload the tractor and drag the truck to solid ground(actually been there and done that). Truck would pull great on solid ground, hauled a 8070 fwa with loaded tires one day no problems. Now i have the same trailer but pull it with a 2500 chevrolet 4x4 with a 6.0 gas engine and a 5 speed. Its a bit of a dog compared to the dodge but will go off road and is paid for. I believe if the combination truck and trailer is plated over 26K you by law should have a CDL license. The 14K trailer should be fine hauling most tractors below 100 HP i would think. A D-21 or something bigger would tax your tires pretty good especially on a hot summer day on a longer haul. The 7.3's are the most reliable powerstrokes out there, always thought the Fords had a nice comfortable interior. I personally really like the gooseneck over a bumper hitch they just seem to pull better and you dont have the stupid wheel wells to try and fit between.

We still go oldstyle around here. 1995 chevy 3500 pickup/ 6.5 diesel. 14000 lb. 18ft bumper. It will get you there, just not very fast loaded. Real good on fuel and not alot invested. A good farmtruck..

04 Super duty with V10 the trailer is custom built by local trailer manufacture 20 ft with a 4 ft beaver tail that can flip up to give me up to 24 ft of deck running 3 7K axles under it.  A trailer with triple singles with pull easier than tandem duals.  After having goosenecks I will never buy a bumper pull of any decent size.  I used to bum and barrow trailers then one day the wife said either you are going to order a trailer or I will do for you so I made the call and ordered what I got.  I made sure that when I ordered to make sure I did it right so it wil be a long term trailer.

Chuck, I pull with a 95 7.3 long bed crew 4x4. My gooseneck is a 16 flat/4 dovetail 101 wide. It has 2 7,000 lb axles de-rated to 10,000 by the company I got it from to stay under 26,000 total. My heaviest load is my UC @ about 6,800 lbs. Trailer weights 3,500 so I'm in trouble if I hit the scales. Pulls like a million bucks though!

1997 GMC 3500 4X4 WITH 454; AND 22ft GN.[trailerman] the bigest thing i haul is the 190XT or 300 bails of hay.

I have my 1995 E350with a 7.3 but haven't towed anything with it yet. I need the hitch first. All I have for a trailer is a 7K car hauler but I did drag my OC46 home on that. No counter weights and no loader and I was still making my trailer strain with that load:(
 When I find me a "new" trailer it will most likely have a pintle hitch and be at least 10K.

I pull with a 2002 Ford F250 regular cab 4x4 with a 7.3 liter diesel that has been amped up a bit with hardware and electronics.  My trailer is a 23' deckover (including 4' beaver tail) with two 7k axles, both with brakes.
After studying what I planned to haul, the weight of my truck, the truck's GCVW rating and the weight of the trailers, I bought my trailer with a ball hitch rather than a gooseneck.  It weighs in at 3,800 pounds.  I had to buy a much heavier receiver hitch that was rated for 15,000 pounds (factory unit was rated for 6,000 pounds).  Depending on the manufacturer, the gooseneck adds 500 to 1,000 pounds of weight to an otherwise equivalent trailer. 
 
I see a lot of guys driving 3/4 and one ton trucks pulling gooseneck trailers with tandem axles and duals - probably 20,000 pound rated trailers.  While I'm sure they've got plenty of pulling power, the GCWR (weight of truck, trailer and all payload) is typically only 20,000 or 21,000 pounds for a 3/4 or one ton truck.  If you do the math, they have paid for a lot more trailer than they can legally pull.  That's fine until they load up the trailer that puts their GCWR over their truck's limit, and DOT pulls them over or they get into an accident.
 
If GCWR wasn't an issue, I would have bought a gooseneck in a heartbeat.

I recently purchased a 32 ft long by 8ft6in wide tarnel gooseneck with tandem duals/10 K axles. I can pull it with the pick-up, but most of the time it goes quite sweetly behind my 93 freightliner FLD 120. Darrel

'99 F250 SD with 7.3 set to +75 hp by programmer.  12mpg all day with the 180 and bush hog on it.

I just bought a truck Friday. 1997 F250 HD 7.3L Powerstroke 4X4 crew cab. I'll use my 18 ft. bumper pull trailer for now. The heaviest I haul is my WD45.

04  Dodge Cummins with a PJ 22' bumper pull.  I originally bought the dually and bumper pull so I could use my Lance 8.5 camper and still pull a heavy trailer to shows....that only happened a couple of times, but I am satisfied with the setup. I agree that a gooseneck is normally overkill....and with a dually becomes a DOT magnet. Add tandem duals to the trailer and you have more weight in the truck and trailer than what you can haul...

Small rig is a 2011 GMC 2500 HD Duramax with 20+5' Featherlite gooseneck with 2 7K axles. GCW 11,000 KG (24,3000 lbs). Big rig is a 1997 Ford Aeromax with a 53' Wabash step deck tridem with a beavertail and flip up ramps (104,000 GCW). Luckily I need these for our business.

I have a 2000 F-250 with a 7.3 powerstroke with 357,000 miles on it and a 24 ft gooseneck with approx 300,000 miles on it and it has 2 7,000# axles this rig has been in 46 of the 48 continental US. I just recently upgraded the truck to a 2002 F-350 dually. I have hauled a lot of units in the past ten years, some for people on this forum.

I have a Chev 2500 with the 8.1 and the allison transmission, and a 20+5 gooseneck trailer with 2 7000lb axles, it is a good combination.

i have a 02 gmc duramax  with a 90 hp chip and a 20+4 goose neck gvw is 26000 the heavest i have hauled is my 7045 at 16000  i know its illegal sorry  shawn

In October I replaced my 93 cummins 350 daully with an 2011 cummins 4500 4x4 with 6 speed auto and 9ft dump,has Jake brake.Can pull 30ft 10ton trailer with 8 ton excavator and have never driven a rig that is so much of a pleasure to drive with a trailer behind it.For my big loads I have a 05 IH tri-axle that I pull a 36ft 15ton trailer that has a 330hp IH powerplant.

GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.2L motor. Pulls and stops real good.
16' trailer loaded with the D-17 doesn't seem like much behind it.
