Charley.  I put on the pump and cylinder on the tractor, and never dit try it to see if it worked.  You will have to get back down to Dales and test it for yourself, this year. Richard

The finished result of "The Build a B Project" should should NEVER BE OWNED by any one individual.

Maybe it should go on a nationwide tour of all future GOTOs. Long may its story be told.

Could be, this year,s national GOTO is about 40 miles from where build-a-B started.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, I didn't put parts or time in this "build a B" (I didn't have parts for a B,C, or CA) I was there when the guys made that truck load of parts into a running tractor, it was neat to see it all come together. Just a thought maybe all the guys that did put parts or time into it can vote on here to take the weight off Dale's shoulders on what to do with her.
3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

I don't have a goat in this race either but one problem I would think with a nationwide tour is finding people to haul it all over and store it between shows.

I'm bumping this thread up to close the gap between this thread and the one posted today about a B in a Kids Museum in NC.

Finding a premanant home for the Build a B in a similar situation would get my vote in a Dallas Second

Thank you Fred for your vote of confidence for the future of the Build a B project.
The Kids these days are bombarded by way to much Green and Yellow when it comes to farming history in the USA.

Now the hurdle would be to find "that special place". Anybody have suggestions?

Dales is just fine with me, but if that were to change, it could be brought back to where it all started.

I following the other post about the B in the Kids Discovery Museum there is already a  pattern to follow for interested communities anywhere.
Who knows. It may be in your own home town where "that special place" becomes real.

IMHO I think you guys are getting the cart ahead of the horse.

On the surface the museum idea may sound good, but I am sure that no one at the museum nor the people that view the tractor will have an appreciation for what the Build-A-B represents.

So, has anybody found a suitable place as discussed above, or should it go on the "early consignment" list, assuming Dale has an auction again this year?

Glenn, has Dale told you he is wantng it to leave his place ? You seem to be wanting to get it out of there . Richard said he is fine with it staying at Dale's. Dale, are you wanting it to leave ?

Just a thought.  Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, ABAC, Tifton, GA.  They have a D-21 that they use to pull with.

I spoke with Dale in person last week, we had quite a lengthy conversation about the Build-a-B  and he would indeed like to have the space back that it occupies. We also discussed the final disposition of the tractor.

IMHO, the only people that should have a voice in this are the people that contributed to the project. There is a list of those people with the tractor. I have an opinion but don't want to sway the outcome of a group decision until the process has been agreed to.

I have  a thought of bidding for it if it goes into consignment sale, but I have a thought of another location,

since the "B" replaced the horse and they have some units the are needing.

I too donated some (small) parts but I vote to auction it for proceeds to Dale's show.  What ever happens to it, happens.  I don't want my stuff back.

How about donating the 'B' to the proposed A-C Rumley museum in LaPort?

Its unfortunate that most folks won't know the backround on the Build-A-B other than the folks that were involved with it to appreciate what it representsi if its in a museum. Although a simple sign explaining the backround would be all that's needed if it were to go to a museum.  I voted to auction it off at Dales OPOP show and split the sale of the Tractor with the two men that made it all happen. Dale and Darin. I would also entertain it going to some sort of AG museum also, but if you guys don't know what to do with it, I'll have a new pole barn going up by May. you can store it in there till you figure out what ya want to do with it! LOL !  I to donated quite a few parts to the cause, and it was a lot of fun for sure! Ya gotta' admit, it was a cool idea to put that Tractor together with parts from all over the world. Does anybody else know of such a feat or event? If so, what did that group do with their "Build-A-Project?

One thing to remenber Dale  did have alot of his time in this ,more then anyone ,as he was the one that had to handle all the parts coming in .This could go on forever why not just end it ,Dale has his space back.
Larry it was not buiuld for anything to do with my place and would not have any meaning to be be here .

Guys, I am on the fence with this one, it has been good to have the Build-A -B here at the Museum but it is a private Museum and will more than likely be sold out when I am gone and I do have limited space here. You guys have asked for my opinion so here goes, I would put it on the OPOP auction and would be in favor of using half the money for OPOP expenses and the other half going to Darin. Anyone wanting to bid on the B that can not make it to the show can be in contact with someone at the show on a cell phone and bid or turn in a bid.

I grew up on AC Bs on what became known as "Chicago's Last Farm".  When my Dad shut down the operation in 72 the Chicago Board of Education who owned the acreage contemplated selling off the land to developers. Public outcry saved the farm from commercial development and the site became the home of 'The Chicago Highschool of Agricultural Sciences" The acres our family farmed along with relatives and friends remains to this day in production of produce.
There was talk for years about having a history display of old photos and tools used to work the land during the time menbers of our familiy were stewards of the land. I don't know what if anything was done about that over the years.
I would love to see a B like the one that so many of us made come together at Dales be part of a farm history display of "Chicago's Last Farm"  where  Bs actually did most all the tillage and cultivating work for the Aggen  family  from 1939 till 1972.
May I have permission to inquire with the Chicago Board of Education School of Ag Science to see if they have the space available for the Build a B?             Kenny Aggen
It would mean alot to me to see "our"  B back at the old homeplace. Not the same one but the nearest thing to it. BTW. I was very excited and happy to be a doner of parts.

....And the high bidder could then have the option of working out a loan to any/all museums they wanted, or they could make arrangements to take/send it to GOTO's, or bring it back to Dales, or whatever they wanted.

It was a really fun project. Fred is right, Dale has been good enough to display it for these few years,

I think the people who would be interested in bidding on it would also be supportive of Dale's show and this forum, so I think it would bring a decent price, as you are really supporting the show and the forum.

To anybody on the "outside" who does not know us, it is just another scabbed together B, and would mean nothing. For those who took part, either donating, assembling or cheering everyone on, they have the satisfaction of having been part of something that demonstrates the true spirit and attitude of Allis-Chalmers collectors everywhere.

Putting together a project that required cooperation and selfless behavior from fellow collectors all around the globe is something that I do not believe I would have ever seen in, say, the John Deere world.... We are fortunate that most of us do not behave in such selfish, rude and inconsiderate ways.

I think it should go on the auction. That being said, were I to be the owner and you could arrange a display at the museum iin Chicago I would be willing to have it displayed there or any other museum for that matter. Were it mine, I'm pretty sure that it would make appearances at a few GOTO shows and other shows as well.
