    Posted: 20 May 2017 at 3:34pm
I just purchased an Allis Chalmers WD 45 tractor. I want to know what kind and weight oil to put in the rear end, and where the wet clutch is. Can I use synthetics where the wet clutch is? What weight should I use in the rear end? What weight for the wet clutch? Can I use any hydraulic oil for the hydraulics?
I've never had any piece of equipment with a wet clutch, so I don't want to ruin it.
Thanks, I have a manual coming, but don't have it yet.

You can use any Universal hydraulic/transmission fluid in EVERY compartment on the tractor except the engine. Synthetic??? why so expensive of an oil when plain old Hy-Tran will work......

Thanks, but I should get different weights right? Like 85-90 for rear end, 20 weight for hydraulics, etc.

NO !!! !    one oil in EVERY compartment as long as it's a Hy-Tran type fluid. You'll need 5 1/2 gallons to refill everything except the final drive pans which take about 1 1/2 quarts each. You could use 80-90 wt in them if you like or Hy-Tran.

Some use the 85-90 weight oil in the final drives as those pans tend to leak anyway, and the Hy-tran is lighter than the 85-90.

As Dr Allis said......you can use Hy-Tran everywhere except in the engine. Hy-Tran is a combination oil that was developed well after your WD45 was built....it works for both hydraulics and in the tranny, differential, etc. I used 85-90 gear oil in the finals only because they are leaky and it's heavier than Hy-Tran.

Would I use a 85-90 weight wet clutch? NO
What weight should I use on my hydraulics? Like everybody said, Universal Transdraulic Fluid.
