It disconnects the rear end and allows the transmission to power the mechanical lift or pto without forward movement

works good for baler' can stop tractor to clean out baler' push it down an pto keeps going use mine for years on a war time wc.

I've never seen a WC in this area that didn't have that in/out lever.  I've always thought it was standard equipment.

As per highlighted section in the above post.....

It sure comes in handy when you've traveled too near to a fence with the cultivator still in the ground.

Believe this release lever only became available as standard on the styled WC's
