Look at the below picture...can anyone tell me whats wrong??
The drag blades ARE postioned right, but it seems to me the WRONG side of the chain will be riding in the sprocket! I didnt catch this before I had my welder weld these bars to the chain. they were bolted when they should not have been as the bolt head would have lifted the drags bars up off the floor....(another screw up by the manufacturer) Question is, how bad of a faux pau is this?

Wow You've got a lot of work to do. Plasma cutter would probaly be easyest way to remove them. Weren't the orginals riveted to chain. Thats how i would have made them. Then you can repair them down the road. Good luck on repairing it.

Originals were riveted. Manufacturer decided to bolt them. Told him that would lift up the bars. (You would think he would have realized that since this is his line of business)
So I had my welding guy weld them instead, after I realized the bars were on the wrong side. Oh well its only money right?

They make special links with offset tabs for mounting the bars. Look at www.shoupparts.com for one source. No welding required. McMaster-Carr also has them www.mcmaster.com

That chain comes apart so cutting isn't so big a deal.

Yes thats what I have. The bar is welded to the tab. The tabs come with holes that was for riveting or bolting. I chose to have them welded instead of riveted. Faster. Hate rivets. Bolts are just plain stupid as the head or nut would be dragging on the floor insead of the drag bar.

Extracting it(a pain), grinding off each welded link, rewelding it correctly, reinstalling it (a pain) at $40/hr is a big deal to me.

No, if I did that the wrong side of the grain drag bar would be going across the floor.

Nope. They are angles....To flip would have the top of the angle dragging along the floor instead of one of the bottom sides. If they were c-channels or square I think that would work.

Next time make them square tubing instead of angle iron and it won't matter if the welder is dyslexic!! Don't you hate a wise ass! Seriously though, how about sawing them off leaving an inch of angle welded to the tab, flip them over, weld an inch of square tubing on as coupler and the weld the angle iron back to the square tubing facing in the right direction. then you would only have the time of cutting it off and welding the tubing and angle iron back with a MIG welder. It will be hard to salvage the tab otherwise. Good luck.

$40/hr for a welder! I guarantee you can weld it yourself with a half day of practice. Unless you have some underline physical reason. I learned in two hours and landed a job manufacturing tailgates for McNeilus Truck. Actually a vender and they had to look pretty. Never welded with a wire feed before that.

Wasnt the welders fault. He just welded what was orginally bolted. It was bolted on wrong at the factory and we didnt notice.
Im going to try to see if I can get some corrective measures from the factory first before I try to fix anything. Thanks for the idea...

My son can really weld with a mig, so he rewelded all the buckets on the chain on a 40. Worked pretty good, he is more careful on how things work, so he got it right. At least you can get the chain in and out easy at this stage.

$40 is cheap around here-for self-employed welders that is.
Its a matter of time too...I just dont have it...
BTW I contacted the manufacturer and they looked at the originals I sent and said it was built just like the originals...so WTF was Allis thinking, once again? Was Mark (42) on this project ?LOL!
Im thinkin if they were on wrong and lasted 60+ years then I am going to leave them as is.
