Just visited with a neighbor today, and noticed this odd looking front end.
He said whoever he purchased it from, used the tractor for sugar beet farming. Said it did have equipment for the sides of the tractor, and the hydraulic lever shown below was used with the equipment.
My question, was this front end extension, Allis built? An aftermarket product? Or something that was homemade to get the job done?

Looks like either way it was a well done job, but I've never seen one of those otherwise.

Looks like it raised the tractor a the steering box is in a lower position. Also looks like the original ac wide front end was used.

I hear ya bill. We are getting rain today, so this snow will be gone again. Hopefully it will just freeze down, and stay that way.
Hey, congrats to your daughter BTW!! Talked with kent last night, and he mentioned that party today.
All the edges of the steel, are clean cut that I could see.

It looks like a 4 bolt wide front end, and channel used to raise and extend it. Does it have taller wheels on the rear?

I'm sure this tractor had some sort of mid mounted equipment likely a cultivator that needed more clearance both ways. Notice the mounting brackets on the extension plates. The extension kit may have come with the mid mount implement and the hydraulic valve was used to control it..

Gary, we were kinda in a rush, and I didn't pay much attention to the rear wheels. Will have to look closer in 1 week, when I go back. Would be really interesting to know what happened to the equipment. This guy has had this tractor for years, the equipment might already be in china!

What is it with the tractors that come out of Michigan and the rust? I bought one from there and the metal was either rusted off or really thin. As for this tractor, if everything is there and it looks like it was a aftermarket conversion I would probably leave it as is because it looks like it was a done right and not a cobble job!

The front-end was stretched to mount the topper under the tractor and the digger was pulled behind the tractor. I can remember seing these
back in the early 60s when I was a kid. Our local AC dealer carried extra rear axles for the WD series during beet season because of the breakage. These under belly toppers was not made AC. |

Tom, I hear ya. Seems like all tractors in this state, if left outside, rust bad. Must be something to do with the wet weather, humidity.
Bryan, thanks for the post, that really makes alot of sense.

Someone brings a Farmall M with a beet digger similar to the AC to our show near Longmont. I never looked at it real close but don't believe the front end is moved, could be the M has a longer wheelbase or something. Used to be a lot of them around this country too but most were scraped long ago.
