 Topic: Wd45 wheel locks

I have heated , hammered impact wrenched and long bar , but I can't get these locks turned to loosen the wheel rails !!
This tractor sat 30 years and this tire went flat and spilled calcium all over the rim sometime during those years .
The rim is salvageable but I can't get the wheel out to clean the rim up well .
I'm about ready to cut the wheel locks out and get new used ones . Any suggestions ??

Did you heat the right end? The thread is near the head and the rest of the bolt is just a smooth rod/pin.

Take the tire off the tractor and lay it on the ground. Remove the eight bolts holding the eccentric on the center. With a large hammer and a piece of wood smack the center until the center and eccentrics fall out. Be sure to gather up the four eccentric pieces that go between the eccentric and the rail.
Put the eccentrics in a vise. Using a torch, 1/2" impact and a hammer and drift, just keep working at it until they come loose. There are keeper spring washers on the back of the eccentric bolt that you need to remove before beginning working on the.
I have also heard of putting them into a wood stove to get them loose. I've never done this so I cannot comment on it.

Heated the correct end .. I've had them be stubborn before but not like this !
John, I'll get a 2x4 and a BFH and see what happens .

Have you tried unbolting the clamps from the center?

Yep but wheel is tight ! Loke CV I said a big hammer . Will let you all know how it goes when i get home and work on it again .

As always with calcium in the tires: It's not if they will leak, but WHEN  . Also how much damage will it do when it does. Once you get things apart, and the tire dismounted, heat the rail directly where the stop bolt is and then you should be able to remove the stop bolt.

Beat the wheel out and eccentrics are soaking in pb blaster . Will put in a vice tomorrow afternoon and start trying to turn !

Had same problem with eccentrics.Got them off the rim and hub and then used heat and a small hydraulic press. Finally broke loose.

It is important to remember that when you heat two components that are rusted and frozen together, you are attempting to expand one component in relation to the other. If you heat the entire assembly, both components expand at a similar rate (assuming both components are made of the same material) and you often don't get far. I have had some success using water or even ice to try and keep one component cool while heating the other. That way, the coefficient of expansion of the two components is different and you can hopefully break them free.

Got the eccentrics apart !!
This tractor has 2 stop blocks on one rail . One I heated and got out, the other the head rounded off with a 6 point impact socket ! Gotta work some more on that one !

Be careful with heat on a rim. The tire will explode from very little heat. There was a video someone posted on here. It was pretty scary!

Just did this on a WD, definitely unbolt the clamps from the center piece and hammer the rim and clamps off. Then go at freeing up the clamps with heat. Wasn't too bad, lots of heat and hammering.
