Hey I bought a allis chalmers wd 45 it fires up but barely runs. Put new plug wires plugs and distributer cap on an didnt help any. It smoke coughs an backfires pretty good lol. Has no power. It will straightin out an run smooth for about 30 secs an then goes back to carrying on. I believe that its the valves at this point. I have a head that was rebuilt not to long ago so I'm going to put it on. My issue is I dont know what the timing procedure is an was hoping someone here could help help me out and give me a quick run down on how to do it as I'm a newcomer to workin on tractors

I think youve got other things going on. But, loosen the distributor and while the engine is running, turn the dizzy slowly. Where it runs best, clamp it. Years ago, nobody had a timing light. My Dad and Gpa timed everything this way. It should get you close. Then see how it runs...Trev.

Sounds like you might have 2 plug wires crossed. With it running, see if you can short out any plugs without effecting how it runs. If you find 2 that can be unplugged or shorted without much effect on how it runs, switch those wires around. 1243 is firing order
