I read a couple places autolite 295's are a good plug for these. It has champion rj12yc in it. The champions don't cross to the autolites. Look to be the same overall length and thread size, but definitely different from the hex down. Probably over thinking again but that's me. This is the one I just bought that's been sitting for 15ish years.

had best luck with AC-45 or 46' them other plugs are not hot . them lawn mower plugs with cold spark don't work very good in the old tractors if your working it.

Forget about those Champions and just put some Autolite 303's in.

I’ve had pretty good luck with the Autolite 295 plugs.
I don’t work them that hard either. Ray W. |

I also use the 295's and they preform well. I also do not like Champions. I guess its like a Ford or Chevy thing?
I drive Fords!:) Regards, Chris

For at least a quarter century Champion tractor pugs have been junk. Their choice of ceramic is bad. When it gets a bit of carbon it from full choke starting it doesn't clean from running normally hot and the carbon really hurts the spark and the engine running. Its not Ford vs Chevy, it is simply an inferior product.

Champions have been a problem as far back as late 50s. Uncles disliked them.

I think my dad must have had stock in Champion plugs. Thats all he ever used in the Allis WD series and the B. He would buy them a dozen at a time and go through them like water. J-8 is still stuck in my mind!

Bought a CA 18 years ago that had Champions. Finally changed them last year. Worked well for the 17 years I used them........but I haven't ever bought any more Champions. I was using Autolite, but have switched to NGK

Autolite 295's are the hotter plug. 303's are the colder plug. When our customer's ask me about what plugs to use, I tell them either Autolite's or NGK's seem to work quite well in AC Tractor engines. In worn not rebuilt engines, the hotter 295's work quite well. In newer engines or freshly rebuilt engines, the 303's work great, especially with a Battery ignition. Anything with a Mag, the hotter plugs (295) work great. The NGK B6 works great also...

Go to Ebay, punch in AC45 and buy some of the old stock AC45 that abound there. Be careful as there are now reproductions AC45 sold there too. Never heard bad (or good) about the repros buy why take the chance. No they are not $1.50 a piece but if you watch you can get them for $3-4 by the box full. If your head has been changed and you need long reach the number is 45XL and they are much cheaper than 45 to boot.
