Hello, I joined the forum hoping to get some advise help. I was given a wd45, but the engine has a cracked sleeve and has been sitting open for a while. I was looking into trying to get a motor and swap it, or try to rebuild this one. It has been sitting open because the head was taken off to put on a different wd45 that's head had snapped the manifold bolts off. Can anyone point me in the direction of the best set of instructions on how to rebuild the motor including how to determine if this one is worst rebuilding or not? I have never done a full motor rebuild, I can figure my way through mechanical work, I am just inexperienced. So more detailed instructions would be better. I am have just been getting into tractor pulling and tractors the last 6 years, but have only bought a good running tractor and done basic maintenance, is why my experience is so limited. I would like to add more power to the tractor if possible, but also keep this as budget friendly as possible. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good set of rebuild instructions and how to determine if the engine I have is worth rebuilding or not? Does anyone have any advice on determining if this engine is a good candidate to rebuild? Can anyone recommend a specific rebuild kit that would add power. My understanding is some rebuild kits can add power and some are stock or even less power then the original parts. I have not been able to determine how to tell the difference in the kits, so any advise with that would be helpful.

Welcome to the forum!
No engine rebuild kits come with step by step instructions that I am aware of. I recommend engine rebuilds be done by competent mechanics to avoid potential issues from errors in assembly. YouTube would be a good resource, or tech school small engine/compact diesel engine class. But you should DEFINITELY have an Allis-Chalmers service manual when doing work such as this. First step to determine if engine is rebuild worthy is to disassemble it and inspect all the parts. The block and crankshaft are key parts that, if cracked, may cause you to stop the rebuild. Replacement blocks and cranks are available, just adds to the cost of the rebuild. A&W tractor offers a couple different options for piston/sleeve kits if you decide to go ahead with the engine rebuild.
