Evening everyone, had a friend call me today, his family deer camp was just given a 45 with power steering,
he ordered a owners manual but it’s a week plus out and they wanted to check the fluids, I’ve never sat on one and had no idea, so I’m asking, how many compartments, where to check levels, and what should be in them, can someone enlighten me? As always thanks for any info, I was surprised there wasn’t a owners manual pdf floating around on the net somewhere! |

Engine has 6 quarts,
I use SAE 30 above 32 degrees Transmission has 17 quarts of SAE 80 EP. it is a square plug on the left side of the transmission just in front of the clutch pedal. There are 2 plugs on my WD and would assume on a 45 also. One is for the transmission, differential and one for the clutch. Both compartments use the same oil. In front of that is hydraulic pump dipstick and fill. SAE 20W 5 quarts. |

The two final drives are in the pan at TD bottom inside the tire. They should have 80-130 gear oil. Remove the plug it should be level full. The steering box under the radiator in the from takes gear oil also. If it leaks out you can fill with corn head grease. Don't use grease gun grease it won't flow down and get to the bearings.

I can vouch for the cornhead grease! Non of my tractors' steering gearboxes hold oil, but cornhead grease doesn't leak past the seals.
