I have a wd45 I think and need some feed back on the numbers on the rear axle and the engine. The serial number on the rear is D 187212 which I think is a 1954 but don't know about the D in the number. The number on the engine on the manifold side is J-8-E and the casting number on the distributor side is AM 3853-10. One issue I have is it has a patent tag on the distributor side with dates up to 1963 so how could a tractor made in 1954 have a patent tag with those dates. I am thinking the engine has been changed any help would be appreciated.

Does the left frame rail have a bend in top flange toward front? Sounds like a Diesel rear end.

Chassis serial number should be WD187212 and if it was a diesel there would be a "D" after the last digit. The engine serial number is directly behind the air cleaner to carburetor rubber hose and stamped into the block. It will say 45- XXXXXX. What you're looking at is a casting number which isn't stamped.   1963 decal is because of a repaint job with a newer decal.
