    Posted: 29 Jan 2017 at 10:14pm
I've been tinkering with my WD-45 the last few weeks. Been pulling a few parts and pieces off, cleaning, priming, and painting every week. It keeps me moving forward while I wait for more money for parts. Not the best paint job in the world, but it works for me. I've got the headlights in the garage right now, primed and ready for paint. Mine were painted orange but I think I've seen some painted black. Unless I'm mistaken. So what's the correct color for a 1954 WD-45 orange or black? I know they're only headlights, and I can paint them whatever color I want but I'm curious now.
Thanks,
Brad

That's kind of what I was thinking. I guess this confirms my suspicions that somebody has worked on this tractor before. Any specific color? Or just any flat black?
Thanks,
Brad

We had a '53 WD. The head light on it were a rather shiny black when it was new.

When they painted them at West Allis the headlights were bagged so they would not paint the lens or the rest of the light.
The basic color from West Allis new is black
Good Luck!

They were usually a semi-gloss black. Had a little shine, but not a bright shine. Actually, you can paint em' any color you want. Its your Tractor....   Big smile

I agree you can paint them any color you want. (I did that with my WD wheels) but my headlights I painted black. The egg light on the fender i painted orange.

 Chris

Great information as always guys, thanks a bunch. I know I can make it any color I want but I like things to look as correct as I can make them. Besides, I think the lights will look better painted black.
While I'm thinking about it, what color is the strap that holds down the back of the hood? Mine needs a lot of cleaning up but I think it was orange. That may just be because someone else made it that way. Just making sure here.
Thanks,
Brad

The strap was the same color as the rest of the tractor as it was painted on the tractor originally.
