Last year my 16yr brother got his first tractor; a WD45. He has been fixing it up since then. He was rebuilding the engine and had it 90% done with the new parts installed in the barn shown in the background of the first picture. Saturday night the barn burned down with the tractor engine inside (the tractor was stored in another barn). Does anyone know of a complete engine for a WD45 that he could get for a reasonable price to replace the one that burned? He is located in Michigan. WD45 baling with barn in background.
Second picture is of the fire burning. The barn had 600 bales of hay and 500 of straw along with serving as a pretty extensive repair shop. They haven't identified any reason why it started but fortunately no one was hurt during the fire. Relatively speaking not much equipment was lost but many tools were destroyed. Third Picture shows the aftermath and the burned out off-road forklift that was in the barn at the time. |

Barn was in central MI near Midland. My brother has a lead on a WD engine but I'm pretty sure he would rather put a WD45 back into it for the power. Of course could rebuild/update WD to 45 but the most of the tools to do that are gone.

Have yall checked into the damage of the original engine? I'm not sure how hot that fire was but I have seen tractors that burned to the ground and afterwards with some new wiring it still ran.

I think they said the new sleeves had fallen out of the block. Not completely sure but I expect it was hot enough to soften any metal that had been heat treated.

Here's my question, do ya suppose that the block and head and crank would be salvageable? anyone think that the fire would be too so hot as to damage the head/block/crank?
I should have read all the posts first, question was already asked Edited by LouSWPA - 16 Mar 2012 at 6:36pm |

I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27 |

The block is probably good. Part of the cleaning process in many shops is baking the block in an oven.
