I have a WD 45 Diesel and was wondering if I replace the head gasket do I need to re-torque when the engine is hot?

Thanks

I would recommend retorque of gasket but why are you taking it apart??? Odds are you will find issues with the sleeves having sunk.

The bolts will already be tighter than spec when the engine is hot. It's a matter of simple expansion. If the need to be retorqued at all I would retorque the bolts after the engine has been hot, but after it cools down.

I purchased the tractor about 6 months ago and I was took the motor was rebuilt. Did not notice any oil leak from head at that time (engine never really warmed up). Now that I am using it I have found that oil is leaking from the injector side of the head once the engine gets hot. Checked and no Coolant in crank case. Motor does sound good.

Thanks

If you choose to re-torque, do it with a COLD engine.

If you have not removed the head off the engine I'd check if the head bolts will even hold being re-torqued first, I'll bet the bolts are bad and or the threads are too.

The threads on those head bolts will stretch. And also your sleeves could have sunk. Both have happened to me.

I sell steel fire rings that will keep sleeves from sinking.     MACK

When I did my 262 I found probably half of the head bolts were pitted and not just a little. I put it back together with ARP studs and nuts. IIRC The studs cost about 2/3 of what new bolts from AGCO were.
