was out looking for a replacement clutch, I am rebuilding one of my 3 WD45 engines and was thinking while in there, as I do on automotive applications, replace the clutch. Great idea until I seen the cost of them from Steiner, DJ's, etc....anyone know of other options? I am not set on replacing the clutch, but more of prevention. the engine in the tractor has a worn out main clutch, the two other engines I have I got out of the machines so unknown condition but Ill inspect all 3 and use the best one if I cant find a more reasonable alternative. $400-500 for a clutch kit seems very steep, but maybe thats the going rate.
Also, eventually I will have 2 WD45 gas engines for sale, Ill post them when the time is right.

I think that is going rate now. 25% tariffs on most all auto-parts importing. Not sure where those clutch kits are made exactly? I work in the auto parts industry (mainly collision parts), and every part we bring in is subject to 25% tariff upon entry into customs.
Slightly off topic, but I was pricing a radiator for my 1953 Chevy truck project and it went up $250 since last year. My mistake for not buying it sooner.

Is your pressure plate cracked or anything? There are places that can resurface the pressure plate and flywheel and even rebuild the clutch disc.
Southbend Clutch and Fort Wayne clutch are a couple local ones for me in Indiana. SouthBen clutch rebuild the pressure plate on my 185 a few years ago and I had no complaints. I put in a new AGCO clutch disc. I've had no complaints but I heard of a local delaer that has had trouble with South Bend clutches rebuilt clutch discs. |

You spent how much on an engine and don't want to install a new clutch while it's easy to do so? I agree that you could probably save a few bucks getting your clutch rebuilt.
However South Bend Clutch would not be MY go to place as I have a failed Chinese disc that came from them a few years ago. Although it's your money throw it at whatever drain you wish.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

waltstractors.com has a rebuilt 6 spring clutch kit for a WD45 for 340 bucks. They have a 9 spring pressure plate, but I don't think they have a kit with the 9 spring, so if you want to go that route you would have to get the parts individually. They will want your old parts for cores. I put one of their 9 spring pressure plates in my WD45 last year and so far I've been very happy with it. Clutch pedal is a lot harder to push though...

Back when Rick was still doing clutches you could get the full monte for like $170 exchange. Bought one for both 45's and an extra that's still on the shelf. All 9-springs.
Four years ago when I did the one win the 756, I think I spent about $550 for those parts. Don't remember what I spent on the 856, it got a new flywheel too so it was not cheap!

Without spending time looking it up, I do think the early 45's may have been 6-spring and soon got improved by 9-spring, which is thee only way to go.

would be no reason to put a six spring back in anyways then decide how you are going to use it for your choice of disk
