Still having problems with the carb- it will only run with the mixture adjustment all the way in and the main load valve turned in all the way. It stalls out with any load on the engine. Checked fuel line-its clear, replaced points, plugs and condenser-no change. Timing is correct as are plug wires. I took the carb all apart and everthing is clear. No sedement in the bowl, no leaks in the float,, all jets in good shape, everything clear and open. Any time I turn out either the mixture or the main load the engine quits. I am stumped.

Just taking it apart and blowing it out doesn't work if thats what you did. I took mine apart and let it soak in cleaner 3 days then went through all the passages with carb cleaner and the air hose.

Have you checked the float level?

I almost would leave the air intake hose off of the carb and see if it run then if it does you have a air restriction.

Thanks for the responses, tried removing the air intake-no difference. Will try soaking in cleaner, luckily I brought it home with me this week.

With the bowl off the carb, turn the top half upside down. The float should be parallel with the gasket area. I always check the drop of the float too. With it right side up I measure the distance between the gasket surface and the bottom of the float. Then check the bowl depth to make sure the float doesn't drop all the way to the bottom of the bowl. If it does, it can hang up in the side of the bowl and cause a problem of flooding.

A fine wire or a small tip cleaner can be used to clean some of the very small passages. Everything has to be clean and open.  Removing the jets is helpful but you have to be very careful so as to  not "bugger" up the slots.
I have ground some screwdrivers so they just fit into the openings and give the most width in the slots as possible. A good square tip on the screwdriver is absolutely imperative. On the really stubborn ones, heating the carb body may be the only way to get a jet out.
Trying to get one out after the slot is gone is no fun!!

I'm no expert but I have had to clean enough carbs to know that you indeed have to clean out every single passageway. That usually means removing all jets and valves, air, and fine wire. I have had to do some carbs more than once myself before I got it right. If I remember correctly, I am close enough to your weekend place that I would be willing to give it a look see for you some day that you are out there if need be. Just call and give me some directions.270-352-5561

Thanks for the offer,I will give you a call. I used old guitar wire string to clear out all jets / passages and I did not see any debris at all. After soaking I wil do it again and see what happens. Thanks t all with their suggestion.

I did a complete clean job on the honda four wheeler carb, still didn't work. So I put in a new kit, runs like new. I did not see your previous post, if you put in a kit yet. Good luck!

Hello Whiskey. New to tractors but not carbs or motors. I'm gonna ask a stupid question but did you check the outlet from the tank to the sediment bowl assy for a blockage? How long does it run before quiting? I kinda had the same problems. I took my air hose and blew backwards through the sediment bowl assy and quickly found out what my problem was. Also my fuel line, steel, I'm assuming is original was routed up so the top of the line was above a good portion of the bottom of the fuel tank. So I turned it downward. I had to scratch my head at the time because the sediment bowl always appeared to be full but infact was plugged just enough to start then lean out and die. After sitting same result. Just a suggestion. Good Luck.

I checked fuel flow several times-looks like plenty by the dead grass under the tractor!

p.s. the tractor will run at different speeds indefinately, but as soon as you put it under and kind of load like engaging the pto to the bush hog it dies.
