WD, what have I got???

I have a WD serial #117077 that I took the motor out of yesterday as it had developed a knock. I thought it was stock but the stroke measures at 4.5 and the pistons are also 4.5 across. The pistons are Alcoa aluminum #224753 and they are flat top. The number on the engine block is 328939 PA. The crank has a casting # of U 3986.
After teardown we found that the #4 crank/ rod bearing spun, the crank is not to bad and we think it can be turned.
So I guess my question is is this an M&W kit or not and what do I have? What is the displacement of this motor?
While I have it torn apart it is gonna get some new tin and some new paint! I might even use it to go pulling!Smile

Wd45 crank and who knows what kind of pistons and sleeves. 286.2783 cubic inches at 4.5 x 4.5 according to my calculator.That engine number is about mid 1952 WD range.

M&W kits had a 4.125 bore. The pistons are easy to identify because they say either M&W or maybe just M on the side. I can't remember which.

Are you certain of the  4 1/2" Pistons ?
 
Can't imagine  4 1/2" Pistons in a WD or  45  Block.

Ok so I guess I better get my eyes checked! The pistons are only 4 inches across!!! But they are aluminum made by Alcoa.Embarrassed

Then you have a 226 cubic inch engine. Same as the 45's
