Where to find a new one. Need just the shock part and bushings. Napa said they had nothing that matches.

  Thanks Leon B |

Leon - Jim, Tony, DJS, Norm Meinert, etc. all sell them including bushings.  There is a SN break I believe and 2 different ones.   Mike

I got mine from Jim at OK tractor. He also had the bushings for the seat pivot point.

Thanks guys, I'll look into them. I've done business with 3 of the 4 in the past.

I think I have chased those shocks down in years past. Seems like I remember them as being the shortest stock shocks with loops on the ends, used in the fronts of 70s vintage Chevies cars and trucks. Could be the automotive shocks are stiffer than the original seat shocks. Not on any of my tractors.

   Searching back forever I found:

WD seat shock Posted: Jan 26 2011 at 8:13pm
Go to advance auto and get a Monroe 5752. The two piece rubber
bushings are in HELP! set 31001. Don't let them cross the monroe part
number to a gabriel shock, it won't work. Been there, done that. This info was good two years ago when I was putting my bench seat on my WD. Adam

Thanks Gerald, thats kinda what I'm looking for. I don't need the whole assembly just the shock. The ones on the parts sites here that I saw are more than I need. As far as being a little stiffer, I'm 250 plus, if it moves much at all it will be better than bottoming out every time I hit a hole. That's hard on the back.

Leon, how are you going to get the caps for the spring to stay in place?

One end is held in place by the shock itself, if the monroe shock is the same diameter and length, I'll spot weld the keeper ring (from the original shock that retains the spring cap) to the new monroe shock dust cover. That's the plan. I haven't actually looked at the monroe shock yet to see if it will match up.

All the other parts are good so I hate to spend $125 (with shipping) on the whole assembly when I just need a $25 shock. Leon B MO

Thanks Leon, that's kind of what I had in mind too. I wonder if a guy could make something up fairly cheap that would work.  I know there are a lot of guys out there that would buy a kit if it was cheap enough...

   Ted,

I'm going to try to get to the parts store (monroe 5752, thanks Gerald) next week and I'll post what I find and what I do with it. It may take me a some time but I'll let you know how this works out. Having said that, I am not interested in making a kit for resale just info for those interested. Leon B MO

Take the remains of your old shock with you and compare them.
