Anyone know of a cheaper price than $260 for a new WD radiator?
Holy cow I can't believe the sticker shock! These suckers oughta be able to warm up your eggs and bacon in the morning for that price!

That's nothing. The only newer radiator for an unstyled WC I've seen was $750!!!!

15 years ago or so a customer at the AC dealer I worked at bought one from AGCO for around $700 for her WD. Back then they were at least USA made but still $700. Am I remembering that right? At the CaseIH dealer I worked at I paid $90 for one made in Ireland about 10 years ago but I got it at 10% above cost and it was a closeout sale from Herschel Walker or A&I or Tisco.

I paid $240 for one a couple years ago from a local radiator shop.

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

Had to buy a new radiator for dad's WD45 this summer. Cost me $250 at a local radiator shop and had to be ordered in. Not much new stuff is priced reasonably any more.

Are these new units made of copper/brass or Aluminum?? I have heard the 45D radiator is over $500 and made of Alum. You can still find good used units. If you can find a GOOD original and have Rad. shop go thru it, you may just as well off.

I had my WD rad recored last spring by a local rad shop. Core is made locally and is all brass and copper. Cost me about $300. The high costs are due to the huge increase in the price of copper over the last 2 or 3 years. But I can now work the old girl as hard as I want and temp never moves out of the green!! Did a lot of heavy brush hog work this summer with no problem other than the occasional sheared drive bolt!

I guess if that is what I have to pay, then so be it. I don't like it, but what is a person to do. I would definatly buy from one of the supporters/sponsors of this site. I think they all are in the ballpark, and good guys to deal with the way it seems.

I talked to a guy about 15 years ago that paid $300 for a used radiator. He said that wouldn't happen again after he paid $300 for a complete tractor to use for parts. Why would you need new? There were around $240,000 WD's and 45's made. Surely there are good used rads out there.

I know a buddy just paid 200 to have his WD re-cored. Not a bad price, all considered - right in line with having an American car done.

Don, is your lower radiator hose hookup still in good shape on your bad radiator? I have a WD radiator that is in pretty good shape, but the lower radiator hose hookup rotted apart, and where it was soldered on was loose, so I took it off and the rest of the radiator is on the shelf. If someone had a good lower hookup and the time to take it to a radiator shop and have it soldered on, it should be fine. I did put water in the rest of the radiator at one time with a cap in the top and filled it to where the lower pipe should be and it didn't leak anywhere, but there was no way for me to pressurize it. I don't know how much it would take to get it from WI to MI. Just an option. PM me if you're interested.

Shoup Manufacturing has them for $229.50. I bought one from them years ago and it is still going fine, then I ordered one for another WD a few weeks ago. Quality seems good, both were imports, but that is the way it is, nowadays.

I am about as conservative(cheap) as they come but to me that doesn't sound unreasonabley high. I bought a new one for my D14 a few years ago and think it was three something and made in china but it looked and fit just like the original one did.JP

Watch the cheapos if your going to use the tractor. Many may look and fit good but they do not have as many cores or cooling capacity as a good quality radiator.

Yes, I bit the bullet, I am having my old radiator re-cored by a local guy for about the same cost. Should be a lot better quality than the china radiators.

I get sticker shock too, when I make a purchase I haven't made in a while. Diesel is $3.05 a gallon here , so $100 to fill up makes a $300. rad seam rather reasonable. It's only gonna get worse, When fuel is $4.00 a gallon you will know the economy has recovered.

If you have a salvageable core, I'd look into having a radiator shop fix it up for you.

Local tractor guy had field full of old parts tractors . Thieves came in the night and stole all the radiators down to the last one. Sheriff's Deputy told him the thief stole them to scrap them. Deputy said they were watching and waiting for the local scrap yards to report anyone selling more than one or two old brass/copper radiators. Asked the guy if he could identify any of his stolen radiators.

This is the best price I could find on a new radiator. $199.99 with free shipping. |
