I just bought a WD that has been used in pulling. It only pulls in the farm stock class,3500,4000,4500. The only modifications I was told has been done was the carburator jets bored.
What can I do to make it more awsome? I dont want to go into the engine now, maybe this winter. Pulls almost every weekend now, want to pull not wrench. Thought might be some easy HP to get.
The H Farmalls have been winning them all around here, I bought this tractor to put a stop to this. My Brother-in-Laws is the main one I have got to beat. LOL!!!

I've read on here that one of the things that you can do is put a spring on it from a 170/175 to give it more rpms.

farm class probably wont allow the higher rpms of the 170 spring. just depends on the rules used where you pull. ditching the oil bath filter for something like a K&N will help but probably minimal with a stock engine. maby a manifold upgrade but i dont think there is much to do without tearing into engine, and once you do that your not really farm class. so again its about what is allowed i guess

balance it for the track. Adjust tire pressure to suit conditions and then let it walk.
See what it does. Power Out? Spin out?

I am allowed 20% over stock here. This is new rules this year, they checked at one pull, none could pull, everyone was over rpm'S. So Allowed 20% over in Farm Stock, and Antique.. It is turning around 1580 now, checked it last night.. previous owner, said it's never choked in the 3500# NOR THE 4000#, he ran it once in the 4500 and finally choked it down. I want to spin out in that class too... NO RED ONES EVER DO THAT!!!

Are you still running a 4" stroke crank. If so I'd at the very least upgrade to a 4.5" WD45 crank. This will give you another 25 cubic inches and better lugging ability. Most WC/WD pulling tractors use this normal in the day dealer upgrade. If you do this you can keep your WD flat top pistons for some serious compression or change to the 45 type "Power Crater" type. Good luck against those binders! Kip
