I remember reading somewhere that first year WD (1948) were BLUE with a long "A" and a long "S".  I have WD S/N 5109--I would like to know too, as this one was re-painted at least once.   R.Musgrave

1948 were blue. I also think 1950 might be the year they went from blue to black but not the whole model year build. Hard to prove on that. I'd guess early 1950 models were blue (with big A and S) and late 1950 models were black.

Well, that shoots my theory all to pieces. Beginning 1950 s/n is 35,471, so s/n 39,811 would be a Feb build at the rate of 3,000 units per month.  This kind of info isn't in the parts books.

Thanks guys, my WD is original to our family ( I was 6 } and it was painted about 25 years ago. It is a late year 1950 so I am going with black. I will post a photo when it is done.

To add to this decal information: If it is an early WD with the blue decals (Big "A" and big "S") there is no decal on the radiator that designates it as a "WD".   The official "WD" designation was only with the black decal letters.  Same with a "WC".....never was a "WC" decal from the factory.
