I'm replacing the main bearing on front of the housing. The old bearing has a snap ring that went over the outside of the bearing the new one doesn't have this? what  is the groove and snap ring or pressure ring for?   Can I use the new bearing?  Thanks for the help and added info.

I believe the snap ring on some bearings is a depth setting and also to stop the bearing from going to deep into a bore without a shoulder to stop the bearing.
Had some machines with those bearing and you press the bearing in until the snap ring hits the casing. The bore for the bearing didn't have a shoulder in it to stop the bearing at the right depth.
If there is a shoulder to seat the new bearing go ahead and use it.

Yes Jeff is right the bearing needs to have the snap ring on it to keep the bearing in place. You will need the snap ringed bearing if your tractor has a belt pulley in it.
Here is the part # for early WD bearings 70224837 and for late the WD and all WD45s 70223712, Hope this helps.

Don first thanks for your time and input  I don't understand why that bearing needs that ring over it, when there is a snap ring in front of the drive gear and another behind the main bearing on torque housing shaft??

If you press the bearing in it's bore and it goes in farther than it would if it had the snap ring I would get the same bearing with the snap ring and groove.
If the bearing seats {Can't go in any farther} at the same depth without the snap ring I don't see any problem using the one without it.
The snap ring sets the depth of the bearing in it's bore.

The replacement bearing number is 6210 ZZ NR and comes with a snap ring that is too large to fit in the counter bore so you will need to use the snap ring from the old bearing.  The snap ring is necessary to hold the bearing in place front to back.  Here are pictures of this on a RC transmission but it is the same part number as the WD45 and its purpose is the same.  I had to use the snap ring from the old bearing when I put my WD45D together too, or you can't get the housings all the way together.  The first picture is just the housing showing the counter bore:

Then with the bearing half way in:

Then with the bearing seated:

The housing in front of this does not have the counter bore and just goes over the bearing keeping the bearing  from moving front or back.
