Wd 45 rear end. Is it junk?

   The reason I am taking the old girl apart is the bad bearing on the pinion shaft..  Anyway got it all apart only to find the housing the shaft goes through is cracked all the way through the bolt hole that is about the 5 o'clock position. The bolt had no torque on it when I turned it out. Seeing as how there is a collar (or that steel ring) around it can I still use the housing? Hate like heck to junk it. I do have a parts 45 to dig into. Any ideas?

	Seeing as how there is a collar (or that steel ring) around it can I still use the housing? I wouldn't even think about using a cracked housing if I had a parts tractor nearby. If I get you right you are talking about the outer race of the bearing(that steel ring). That needs to be contained in a round bore. If the bore is cracked I would suspect some out of round condition. The bearing also needs to be a press fit in the bore. You are supposed to freeze it to get in place. If it is not tight in the bore and it starts turning you will have it back apart very shortly.

	The main reason I wanted to save it is that it was my Dads tractor and the serial number is of course on there..It is not usable. the shaft, bearings, and race all came out of the housing with just a bump of a hammer. No way that will ever fit in there tight. The rear most bearing was in very bad shape. I guess I called it a collar for lack of a better term. I am refering to the steel plate right behind the pinion gear that is held in place with the bolts with the wire through them.. I dont have my manual here to describe it better.. I tried to get pics posted here but my phone would not cooperate and send them to my email..
