Ted, Folks,
Yea we are now very close to the 50 year mark. Still not sure how that happened???:) As related: The 45 started right up today but the hydraulics would not work. I added some more hydraulic fluid. Still nothing. I thought maybe there was some water in the pump and it was froze. I took out the plug on tractor center in front of the pump area. Nothing came out I jammed a screw driver in there to dislodge the crud and got a flow of black goo. (I have to go see which compartment this is:)) Anyway put the plug back in and then took the small plug out of the lowest place on the pump. Again no flow, seemed to be some ice and crud plugging the drain. Again the screwdriver finally opened the hole and more black goo dripped, then flowed slowly. Let some of this run out and then reinstalled the plug as the hydraulics began to work. Filled the reservoir again. And the lift worked very well to plow the snow from the drive. The 45 needs a tune up as it is not running quite as good as I would like. Will try to get pictures downloaded soon for your enjoyment. Yes the plastic tarp is making a good temp heat houser for the WD45. Regards, Chris |

Lets try some pictures:
WD45 with cheap heat houser, functional but not much for looks. Does protect the tractor from getting snow on electrical components. Jubilee plowing the drive at home, still 6 volt and fires right up in this weather! F250 PS ready for winter action, just a 3-4 inch dusting last night: Back shot of the 45 with three point blade for the daughters drive. We haven't had a lot of snow, maybe 6-8 inches on the ground, but good to get this stuff ready for when we might get dumped on. I hope the 45 hydraulics work the next time I try it? I do like the better three point hitch system compared to the jerry rigged one that was on the prior WD, much safer, more robust system. Regards, Chris |

Chris, just because Shameless likes me so much, we've only got a dusting on the ground. Probably just over an inch. Don't they look good with snow all over them!?
I put my tarp inside the fenders and used a piece of 1/2" CPVC and made a hoop like to extend the tarp closer to the driver and up over the steering wheel. Made quite a difference for warmth. Just an idea...... MERRY Christmas, you've already sent out the cards.....above /\ |

Ted, Folks,
Shameless has been pretty easy on us so far too. I have a friend in Gillett Wis. and they got 10 inches of Shameless's best stuff! I did move one of the tarp edges inside the fender, was about to get ripped off from the chains. It is a cheap cover but will help keep the big stuff off. Glad you like the pictures/ cards! Folks,
The WD45 wouldn't start yesterday when I needed it to plow snow. So I put on a battery charger all afternoon. I stopped at Napa and bought a complete tune up kit for the tractor. Plug wires, plugs, cap, dust cover, new 12 volt coil, points, condensor, and rotor. Got there today and it fired up on about the third try. Still learning the combo on this with the air box back on and in cold weather. Choked it quickly and it began to pop. Hydraulics took a while to start working. but when they did kick in they preformed well. So I did get the drive plowed out just ahead of a warming trend coming in for a few days. The new electrical parts will be added as needed or this spring. Changing all fluids will be on the list too. I did check the battery and it was charging 14+ volts. Regards, Chris |

Sugarmaker, I've still been following this post. I'm glad to hear you're back to tinkering with the WD45. It sounds like the weather is holding you back as much as your back surgery. Six inches is a big snow for us here in Tennessee. Congrats on your 46th anniversary. This year will be are 30th for the wife and me. We are planning a little trip or something. Keep doing what you can on that tractor until spring gets here.

Hi Chris. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
![]() Sorry to read and hear about you fighting off a bug for a week, especially on the mend from surgery. Here's some info that I'm aware of that's saved me bookoo bucks as it kept me from being down and out with any type of "bug" going around. Colloidal silver! I make it myself with the generator from here: The sale of them go off tonight. For me, it was worth it as when we start "not feeling too whoopee", we just take a tablespoon or two 2-3 times a day and we're doing better in about a day. He also has the reports to read up on to find out what all it helps. You can find the colloidal silver at the stores, but you'll pay a pretty penny for it and you'll see why I bought one of these when they were on sale with all of the bonuses. I think it'll help you and Cheryl as well. I know that I kicked walking pneumonia out and ready to take on the world in about 3 days about 3 yrs. ago with the colloidal silver that I had made.

So being retired I do about what ever I want:) Todays adventure was to check out the WD45 at Kelly's place.
When I got there it was waiting patiently. turned the gas on and it fired up with just one pull of the choke. The lift would not work until the tractor had warmed up for about 20 minutes. Still not sure what the issue is? The oil on the dipstick is very dark and thick. I think that there must be some water in there freezing. One of the rear tire chains was off so I wrestled that back on to the right rear. Our fture son-in-law had been plowing the drive, not sure what happened. I don't like to run with out the chains. Just never know when you need that little added traction. These chains have seen way better days, so I keep my expectations real low for those old chains. I just know that they are way better than better than bare tires. We just heard that Erie may get another foot of snow tonight. When the hydraulics warmed up they worked real well good quick response. This tractor shifts from 2nd to reverse and back with just the hand clutch. So that helps while working the back blade too! This 45 seems to run pretty good. I do need to get the springs for the right brake shoes. (summer project) Lots of pesky little things that need done but it may not get a lot of attention as in restoration, just work on the things that make it more functional. I want to try the brush hog this summer and see how it runs. Regards, Chris Edited by Sugarmaker - 29 Dec 2017 at 4:26pm |

Drain the hydraulics once it is warm and put in universal hytran fluid. It will be a lot happier in the cold.

That's what needs to happen! Temps are between 0 and 20F. So we do the best we can. The heat houser (tarp) is actually helping it warm up. Regards, Chris

Went to plow snow (another 12 inches last night) with the 45 again today and it turned over but would not fire, Battery ran down quick, (may be bad, need to take and get it load tested) put charger on and it popped once. Temp is about 15 F. Will try tomorrow.
Could need some of those electrical parts to make sure the electrical system is ready for this cold weather. Stay warm out there! Regards, Chris

Chris, got access to a smudge pot? Or one of them ice fishing heaters? Or a torpedo heater? Anything will work. Just throw a tarp over the tractor and heat it up underneath. MOST of the time this will heat the oil enough to get them going. I've done it when it was down to -10. Any colder than that and my poor fanny just will NOT sit on a piece of steel.
Actually any more, once it gets down to 10 above or below, I'm playing chicken in the house.... |

Ted,
Your not the only one hunkered down in the house! I went to Tractor supply with future son in law Ryan today to get a pin for the blade on the 45. Roads were not great! He snapped off the bolt that holds the blade in position and then is removed for it to pivot. Anyway he had gotten the WD45 started and he said it took a while for the hydraulics to start to work again. I think its full of sludge or still has some water in there. I plowed our drive with the Jubilee and am still thawing out. Getting the TD6 out may still be a option if we get much more snow. The little Ford is pushing it as far as it can! Piles are 3-4 feet high. I haven't made any moves to get the IH TD6 out for snow duties. I have never tried to fire it up in this cold weather but tht is what it is designed for. If not familiar with them, they have a unique engine that starts on gas, and then you warm it up and switch it over to run on diesel. Another antique toy that I have been playing with, for several years. Stay warm out there! Temps may drop below zero for a few days this week! Ted/ Folks,
I just google Imgur. Then I signed up (started a account) name and password required. I then began by setting up albums. Name the album and save it. Open it and add pictures from my computer. Added them in mass (like 6-8 at a time) Not sure what the limits are? I then open the Allis forum in another tab with imgur open too. Each picture can be added by clicking on the pull down arrow and selecting the get shared links, select (forum) url. Then paste the url into the Allis post. FYI I had reduced the size of these pictures on my computer prior to bringing them the Imgur. Seems to work OK at this time. Here are some shots from today and using Imgur to store and upload them here. Sorry wrong color! Pushing out the drives with the IH TD6! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Regards, Chris

Talked to Ryan and he said the WD45 started up Ok but the hydraulics still very sluggish. i may not have done that any good as I added some Sentry fuel treatment. Might ruin the seals???? Maybe 1/2 cup added. Oil is very black! Regards, Chris

Erie has 120 plus inches so far this year. Some records for snowfall will be set in this little burgh. Temps near zero. Time to head out to work on that new WD45. I think it needs a new battery, and some more hydraulic fluid too. Will try to get some pictures. Regards, Chris

Folks,
WD45 update: Ryan had the battery charger on it most of the day. I got there around 1:30. Tractor labored to try to start then fired up right when I let off the starter. Lift came up within a few minutes and actually worked better than the Jubliee. Took the battery out which was too big for the battery box, and had it checked at NAPA. It should that it had 500 CCA but also said to replace it. So I picked up a new one and some hydraulic oil too. Some shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() We got all the angles, ![]() Here is a picture at home standing in the sugarhouse wood shed looking to the west at the house: ![]() Lucy has to spend some quality time on the deck trying to catch birds: ![]() I know its the wrong color, but the old Jubilee has been doing a good job with the drive. I think the D17 with chains and a good 3 point and back blade would be a nice plow tractor too. ![]() Stay warm out there! Regards, Chris

Dave, Folks,
Keeping the drive cleared is starting to get though. I did not do a good job getting it opened today either. The TD6 would not start. Just darn cold out! Took the new battery and installed in the 45. It acted the same way. Very sluggish to turn over, finally caught as I let off the starter, and ran for 10 seconds then stalled and would not start. Some days you just dont win! At some point in the near future I am going to start replacing items. But the more I think on this it may be the starter? Just not turning over very fast for 12 volt and dragging the battery way down quickly too. Dave you stay warm and keep a eye on those cats! We need some pictures! Regards, Chris

Chris,
I agree. Sounds like the starter is not turning fast enough--especially because you say it fires as you release the switch. Can't imagine dealing with all that snow and cold. I heard that the NE is supposed to get near 50 next week?! Weird. Steve |
