There are no truer words Smile

I've only got 10 tractors, 6 Fords (1 is a parts tractor), 2 Fergusons, a Oliver and my beloved D17. 3 or 4 will go down the road but, I won't stop until I get a Case D and a CA.

My wife is understanding and enables my addiction, as well as helps me work on them, if I need help. I'll be 75 in 3 months and it also helps keep me from feeling it.

Folks,
Frank, I your tractor herd is of good size. My wife doesn't like me playing with this old iron much, but tolerates it and me!

Last night the Allis tractors did not do well at the local pulls. Both of our trtactor preformed well and did everything they could. Grandson Nic pulled his WD in the 3500 lb class and ended up in the middle of 14 pullers. Track was good enough that he ran out of power.

Sorry for the old cell phone picture quality of Nic pulling:

I took the new toy (WD45) in the 4000 lb class and didnt do any better: I spun out near the left side of the track.

Track was sticky in center and dry on the left. Most tractors pulled towards the left and required some brake work to stay in bounds. The front of the 45 came up maybe 8 inches at the most and only required me to lean up towards the steering wheel to bring it back down. I had the option as first puller to re hook I thought I had a good pull so kept the distance 305 feet. Winner was at the 340 foot mark on a nice old green machine. Lots of good strong competition, most were getting the power to the ground well too!

We both had a good time, and it was a good cool night under the lights in Waterford PA.

Didnt bust anything, tractors drove on the trailers, no plastic to polish, got to visit with a lot of pullers/ friends, and we looked darn good going down the track!Smile

Thanks for checking on me! Yea I know it should be in the pulling portion of the forum!
Regards,
 Chris

Chris,
You both have extremely nice looking machines!

It sounds like you have a near perfect balance. What pressure where you running? I hope that green machine was a Oliver :) Nic could use a little longer stroke in his, maybe?

It sounds like a really great event. I wish I had the ability to pull more than twice a year :(

Great pictures, as always!

Frank, Folks,
Thanks! We get a lot of compliments on the tractors. But like they say paint dont pull! Nic was out paced by a Allis WD that may be a 45 or at least a 45 engine that had old rubber and was running rather ragged but did the job! Yea I would like to get Nics tractor upgraded to a 45 engine.

Nic sent me this picture of his son Cooper (our great grandson) on his great great grandfathers tractor. He looks ready to go to work with the old WD!

Tomorrow night we will be at Spartansburg PA fair. I will take the WD45 and keep hitting at it! About the same tough tractors. No hang on weights unless from the factory, will be at 4000 lb.

Next week we will have three tractor pulls at our local home town Albion PA fair. Friday the 13th will be 3500 and 5000 lb classes on the cement with a stone boat. (Would like to do a stone boat on dirt track!)
Then Friday evening it will be a Farm stock pull. Saturday will be the antique tractor pulls.
Will be a busy week at the fair!

Also just broke ground tonight for new kids pedal tractor pulling track at the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society grounds.  (Sagertown PA) It will be 5 ft x 40 feet. Light broom finish. 4 inches of concrete on top of 2 inches of foam. Rhett and Cooper will be using this to get started pulling!

Regards,
 Chris

Folks,
Spartansburgh antigue tractor pulls last night. WD45 weighed in at 4040 lbs. Track was hard packed. I took the right side and didn't have much bite. I spun out at 180 feet not at full throttle in 1st gear. Good stout tractors were pulling 50 plus feet farther. But we looked good! So there you go!

Off to Waterford fair Farm Stock 4000 lb class today at noon. At little hitch adjustment and shazzam! No rules on this pull, so pretty much just a donation, but we will be there! Some old farts in the stands just dream about it, we do it! Raining drizzel.

Regards,
 Chris

Folks,
Adjusted WD45 hitch up (20 inches) and tighter to axle for farm stock no rulles pull today. Better track conditions. The WD45 stood up at 136 feet. I wasn't going to be front page news so popped the hand clutch in to stop my vertical climb. Maybe was 8 out of 12 pullers? Still learning! Defiantly had traction today! Was a good day!

After many lunch breaks of getting through half a page at a time I have finally read through the entire thread! Thanks so much for documenting everything. It's helpful to see how everyone tackles different challenges in these tractors.

wjohn,
Man I sure hope the trip was worthwhile! I didnt have a clue we would be going two years talking about this old WD45. I look back and wonder how in the heck I made all those moves!Smile

Here is a shot from the pits at the Waterford PA Farm stock tractor pulls Saturday. They had 90 hooks yesterday, with some real smokin hot out of control diesel tractors in the other lane! Way too much for me!

Folks,
I had a large air bubble in the Allis hood decals on both sides of the tractor. Bothered me to the point I peeled the mylar decals off a couple days ago and attempted to touch up the paint under the areas that I had tried to apply some super glue. Which by the way did not work and would not be recommended to try to repair decals! I just got a new set of mylar decals from Maple Hunter! Great service!
I need to figure out what I need to do, to get the paint repaired and then come up with better technique to apply these long cumbersome decals!
Any suggestions or techniques are welcome too!
I will try to get some pictures.
Whats the worst that can happen? They looks worse than the first time and I rip them off again! Out to the shop! Rain here so good day to look at this project!
Regards,
Chris

Some pictures for applying the large Allis hood decal.
I had touched up the persion orange paint, and let it dry then used some fine steel wool to smooth out any bumps in the paint.

Taped the decal in the location desired (friend Bob stopped by so I put him to work):

I taped all along the top and used this as a hinge to lift the mylar so that the backing could be removed:

This was not my idea. I seen versions of this online. But I must say this worked WAY better than trying to handle and place the entire decal. This kept it in location and used gravity to let the decal in to place. Then used a plastic bondo paddle to remove most of the air. Working from the center outward. Had a couple small blisters that were poked and smoothed.

The results:

I am a happy camper! It was worth the effort to fix this. Thanks to Maple Hunter for the quick service! Thanks you folks for checking in on me too! Hope things are good in orange land!
Regards,
 Chris

That looks really good Chris and masking it the way you did is how do mine...an old trick I learned doing decals on my race cars. Also when you have small bubbles/blisters that you relieve with a needle or such tool it helps to leave it out in the sun for a little bit also. The sun and heat will help draw the vinyl or Mylar and shrink bubbles.Or a hair dryer on low works, never a heat gun,it’ll blister and wrinkle faster than all get out.

MD,
Thanks I had thought about a heat gun! Good I stayed away from that!
wjohn, Thanks!

I have been helping folks work on a upgrade building at the local tractor show grounds.
Today we finished the new steel ceiling.

Lots of rough cut hemlock some planed on both sides! Very nice material sawn on the show grounds!
I worked on the 4 foot overhang roof:

The building is a kitchen with steam kettles in it for making wonderful bean and ham soup! Yum! Hope to have it functional by Oct 12 tractor show (Sagertown PA)

 Chris

Yes big work weekend for the final building push. (I will be playing off in Columbus!) The fall show is a antique tractor pull plus other attractions.  Maybe 100 hooks? Lots of good food available. The cider press will not be functioning this year but I believe cider will be available too! The cider press is now located in the open bay of this building. Maybe small flea market?
I plan to take a couple tractors for the pull. I know my grandson will be deer hunting so he is not pulling his WD. Would like to get my daughter, Kelly, to pull once. Could be a surprise orange tractor there too! Or like some one said this may all be a "orange dream"!

If that isn't confusing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well, go pull well, I'm rooting for you!  HAVE FUN, it's what it's all about.
Oh yeah, I hope you're ready for spring syrup as I'm praying for a very short winter with little snow and not a lot of cold.  I hope MY wish comes true.

Folks,
Some fun in the yard with 4 year old Rhett (Great Grandson) and the WD45. He says we should keep this one and the old Rusty WD not so much.

He had a ball and can steer it pretty good. I showed him the function of the hand clutch and he said "Papa get out of the way so I can use it"!Smile

Makes it all worth while!

Well I take it you 'lost' another tractor.  Now you can tell the little woman you need to find another.  She'll never blame Rhett for you having to get another.....

Do you remember the write-up I did on using Photo Bucket?  You need to make one up for the site you use.  I've got TOO MANY pics I want to post and don't have room on this site.  I HATE using (or trying to) something new and different.  If I could SEE you do it, I'd be doing it in no time.......hint, hint, time for a VIDEO..... DJ could use it too.  And then there's Shameless,,,,,,,,,,but that's another story in itself.

Sugarmaker,
You have a very nice looking tractor as a result of your devotion to that project and it looks like you are certainly enjoying the fruits of your labor. Fun pulling and teaching your gr-grandson how to drive that tractor. Great memories being made.

Ted,
One of my small goals is to try to live long enough to see these great grandsons pulling orange tractors! Just would really tickle me. These are just my toys for a while. They dont do any real work any more, other than tractor  shows or pulls.

I am not good at all on videos. My old flip phone is not compatabile to down load them. Dont make me go buy one of these new fangled things!

The app or program I use is call "imgur". I think it is basically like photobucket but maybe a little easier to use??
You may just have to bull your way into it set up a account: User name and pass word.
I am going to take some pictures of the imgur screens and post them.

Chris

Folks,
Took a picture of the WD45 project tractor after a cool ride down the road and back. Might be the last ride this year as the weather is going to be turning cold and yucky!

Here is what this tractor looked like when it came home 2 years ago:
