Looking great, Chris!
I think that you may find that weight location just about right for balancing the tractor to keep the front end down.

Jim, Folks,
Your correct I did not have any front end lift. If anything its probably still a little light in the rear. Here are two of the three pulls last night. I was not competitive in any of the three. Track conditions varied and the pull in the dark was the best I did on the right side of the track. This was the first pull and I only went to about half throttle. Here I took the right side at full throttle. No problem with power, getting it to the ground is the issue at this point. Was good evening! Had a good time. Prior to the pull the distributor was removed an disassembled down to the moving weights. Seemed to be sticking a little, when the rotor was twisted. Just didnt spring back like it should. Thanks to Don (MO) for the tips! Thanks to Rick G for checking the timing again too. The spark advance was working as we increased the idle! This pulling thing? Well will try it a few more times. Regards, Chris

Dave, No winnings! That's OK. I don't have to polish any plastic either! I try to keep my expectations rather low at these competitive tractor events. I was happy to be able to pull three times to see how the tractor was working. I think it's getting better each time I run it a little too! Regards, Chris

Folks,
WD45 project is pretty much in the books. Appreciate all the folks following along through my trials and tribulations.
I got a timing light and re-timed the 45 at WOT. It seems much happier! Taking it to a car show tomorrow. Will see how that works. Several tractor pulls coming up too. Thanks for checking in on me. I will be checking in on other folks Allis projects. Regards, Chris |

Well it's about time! I'm glad you got her done, now I don't have to check the forum everyday lol. Seriously though, I think this has been interesting for all of us. You spent many hours on that tractor, and on the computer to share with us. THANKS ALOT! Enjoy that tractor, you've earned it.

Hey you guys have helped me a lot on this Allis project along the way. Words of encouragement sure are appreciated too!
Looking forward to following some Allis projects where others are down in the details. I will throw in a picture of the WD45 as it gets some hours on it. Or maybe a tractor pull here and there too. A shot of my two WD series tractors: Regards, Chris

AcinSC, Folks,
Thanks for the gentle push on the D17 project too. I will have to think on that one, as I have two potential other off color tractors that i should get ready for July 2020 local tractor show featuring FORD. I have a Ford Jubilee and I just acquired a Ford LGT 100 (garden tractor) that needs a lot of work. I would like to make that into a mini Ford 5000. Regards, Chris

chas,
Yea I dont let them see each other often! Right now the Allis' tractors have the Fords out numbered. Then there's the Sassy little Massey 8 hp, and bunch of IH Cub Cadets, and that lonely JD 110 that needs attention too. I will never get all these things done! Makes me tired thinking about it! Regards, Chris

Can't wait to see your next project, Chris! One question -- when you installed that cup washer on the inner bearings of the front wheels (the one you determined covers/seals the big bearing), did you have to drive it home with a hammer? Or did it drop right in?

GG,
I couldn't remember but I looked in the AGCO service manual (Page 49 lower right corner) and it says the cupped seal washer should have the flat side towards the felt seal and the cupped side towards the bearing. Is that the part your asking about?? I don't remember having to drive it into place? Cant even remember if I put it in correct?? Page 34 of this thread June 17 shows the assembly of my front spindles that cup washer was not in correct position in first picture. Regards, Chris

Oh man, I need to check out the AGCO service manual. Is that on their website easy to access? Yeah, the cup washer was super snug. Like, brass hammer and seal kit drive it in to install tight. Will do the other side the correct way and go back and double check my work...

Thanks Chris! Do you happen to have a link to that AGCO manual page 49 (did you find it online or in a physical book)? Sounds like it has more info than the manuals I've got. I have the original Allis Chalmers service manual and the I&T manual, if it is in one of those.

Thanks, I see it now. So when I took the hub apart, instead of a cup washer, there was a flat washer used as the bearing retainer (between the bearing spacer and the inner bearing). Trying to decide if that was an issue or not. Since the bearing will sit against the washer but the actual part of the bearing that spins is recessed a bit, it shouldn't interfere with anything, and the washer doesn't touch the hub so it shouldn't turn on the spindle... Just concerned that the second new hub I have seems even tighter than the first one for installing the cup washer. Debating on going the flat washer route, unless somebody thinks this is a terrible idea.

gg,
I am not there with you on this one, just a idea. is it close enough that you could sand or remove material from the outside of the cupped washer?? Folks, We just had a storm go through wind and rain. I didnt get my camper awning down in time. Ripped that in half. Also Cheryl said it took down my outside work tent.:( Have to go check damages. Regards, Chris
