Topic: WC starter tank?Posted: 13 Sep 2011 at 7:57pm |

I have a replacement starter tank for my unstyled WC that I bought quite a while ago. I had a NOS cap for it but it's gone AWOL over time. But the reason I haven't put it on before now is I need a shut off valve, and to know how the line was run. The shut off on the main tank has a plug opposite from where the fuel line fitting is, was that for the starter tank line?
Can anyone tell me where to look for a shut off valve? Edited by Dave in il - 13 Sep 2011 at 7:58pm |

Mine has a Zenith carburator and there is a fitting on the front for the starter tank line. The connection for the main tank is on the back side. As for the valve I don't know.

Our 38WC is set up the same way as yours under the main tank but also has the carburetor inlet fitting as posted by JW. The WCs I have seem plumbed at shows went from the tank to the carb as JW suggests. Hard to tell how things have been messed with over the years but I always wondered why the extra fitting under the main tank, it does look factory?? There are several sources for that cap, I am sure Norm Mienert has them. It seems that every swap meet I go to there is somebody with a box of NOS caps, have even seen boxes of the soldered on part that the cap crews on to NOS.

Just a thought, the extra connection at the sediment bowl on the fuel tank may have started with the 34 WC's. Many had a hood from earlier production Waukeshaw's with the starter tank on the right rear of the hood. Instead of running 2 lines to the carb, they may have connected the 2 supplies in front of the sediment bowl. |

It had a plug in the carb. I'm not happy with this 1/4 turn valve but I couldn't find a better one locally and the Ace Hardware guy swears this is ok for fuel. I needed an 18" line, of course I could only get a 12" or a 20", so I had to do some creative bending to deal with the excess. An 18" line would have had one 90% radius bend. I still have to take the tank off and paint it and I'm going to use thread sealer on the valve and fittings in the bottom of the tank. |

The cap is around. I got one from a JD90 skidloader. Oliver used them as well.
