Are annual sales numbers for the Ag industry available from the teens through the 80's?

I've always heard that IHC was the industry leader up untill the mid 50's when Deere overtook them. I've always wondered what Fords position was during the Fordson years. Did these figures include all sales including equipment & parts. Of course we all would like to know where AC landed over the years.

Fordson's sold great numbers, but not so great revenue. They were so far under the prices of the competition that much of the competition didn't survive. Post WW1 with much surplus in farm commodities and war inspired equipment didn't help the high priced competition. Many companies went out of business in the early 20s from the end of the war and Fordson competition.

Some time ago in one of the "Plow Peddler" articles it showed the standings around the 50's and later.  Prior to WWII we were 3.  With the strike in 1947 it knocked us out of that position.  In the 50's if I can recall it was IH, JD, Ford, then a grouping that included Allis Chalmers, and the rest.  Sad, but AC never really recovered from that 1947 strike.
Good Luck!

In the 60's there were a few Case, Olivers and Masseys around here but IH, Deere and AC had them all out numbered. There were probably as many AC as IH or Deeres.

In the 70s and 80's it was Deere, IH and AC was a distant third when talking new tractors, there wasn't much else around here by then. Dealers were the reason, AC had 3 dealers in a 30 mile radius down from 5. IH had 5 and Deere had 6. Nothing else was closer than about 50 miles.

Today CIH has 3 stores owned by the same dealership and Deere has 2 stores in a partnership with a third dealer farther away (all 3 used to be independend) and there's only 1 AGCO dealer left. Another AGCO / New Holland dealership closed the doors when the owner retired. A third AGCO dealer only sells Kubotas and lawn mowers now.

I guess it's a sign of the times.

It would seem like Wisconsin would be a strong state for AC and Case. Iowa for Deere and Illinois for IH. But I was wondering how they did nationally over the years.
