When I buy a used car with onkly 20,000 miles on it and also buy undercoating with a lifetime rust protection warranty for as long as I oiwn the car, an the dealership gets bought out by a rival local dealer, does the new dealership have to honor the warranty?

Try finding a “Zebart” place anymore. I had an 85 vehicle done new and in the late 90s I tried to follow up on the so called lifetime warranty and there wasn’t a Zebatr place anywhere around.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

sigh...read the fine print.... I'm betting NO... unless the new place took on ALL the 'contracts and obligations'. a quick call to the new owner should confirm/deny. hmm IF the undercoating was through a 3rd party, they might honour it...... fine print...gotta be in the 'fine print'.

was the undercoating a DEALER OPTION, or was it promoted by the MANUFACTURER.. FORD or GM might warrant it.......... but not if it was a DEALER deal.

It depends on WHO is backing the warranty. The Ford dealer I'm at was bought out prior to me starting there and when the new owner bought the dealership, all he bought was a building and inventory. The previous owner's were a little shady, selling extended warranties, but not actually activating them. As long as you came back to where you bought the car, you didn't know. If you went somewhere else, you found out you had been swindled. When people call and want to know about their warranty, they are told to contact the previous owner's at their used car lot location.

a friend of mine bought a used ferd for his kid one day, and paid over $2000 to the dealer for an extended warranty. about 3-4 months later the tranny went out of it. when he brought the paperwork for the extra warranty to the dealer, the dealer told him they couldn't cover the tranny cuz on the title for the car it had that "S" on it saying it was a salvage title, and they don't cover salvage vehicles! last I knew there was a lawsuit, haven't heard of any outcome yet!
