Hehe yep, you're probably better off finding a front weight set somewhere in North America. I need to get out and check out my local junkyard sometime and see what they have.

John, you're such a tease mate! LOL! Like that B. Seen it once before on here. Why don't you spiff er up a bit? It would be a wartime model for you guys too. I believe the Japanese attacked Sydney Harbour in May 1942 didn't they?
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

Can't tell from the pic, does yours have the block off plate over the starter hole?

It looks like it has the starter plug but my question is why does it have a non-electric tool box with an electric torque tube?

i think they were designed to have a starter, then when the war caused shortages the starter was left off & a plug put in the hole , also the batery box was left off & a small piece was put in place where the box was so stuff didn't fall out of the tool box, thats what my '42 b has. also, i don't know, but maybe they used up some leftover tool boxes from non starter models also.

Hmm, so that 38 B wouldn't be a wartime model. It has hand brakes and non-electric torque tube. Still has the tall air cleaner, which I think was added to all the ones that shipped from the factory or as dealer add-ons with steel wheels. Think someone said it was because of the extra dust kicked up by the steel. Not sure, seems like rubber would still kick up almost as much dust to me.

Well........... I bought the book from OKTractor for $38 ish + shipping $10, then I noticed printed on the back of book it says "STEINER". I looked in my new Steiner catalog, and it is listed at $19.95, item BOK074, page 50, catalog date 2012!!
What's the deal with that? Any comments from OKTractor? Don't think I could ever buy from OK again.

I always thought the tall air cleaner looked neat but was not sure why they offered it.   Maybe a leftover from the needs of dust bowl era.  I have heard that steel wheels had generally poor traction so you had to wait for dry condtions for field work also.   If it was and added cost  they may have dropped the option over time due to lack of interest.  Probably was easily caught by branches.

As far as steel wheels and traction I do know for sure that you can bury yourself faster with steel than with rubber.
