Have a friend wanting to sell an AC 5040 . It appears to be low hours ( under 1000 hrs ) if the tack is working. The metal all looks good from photos I've seen. I'll go look at it in person next week. It has an AC loader with a grill guard. Tires appear in the limited photos I've seen to be good shape. It's a two wheel drive tractor. Paint looks good as it's been stored inside most of if not all of its live. Thanks, Rodney

Prices are all over the place these days, but it seems from what I see selling any tractor that has a decent loader and will run and operate will bring at least $2500 and the one you describe sounds better than average. Low hrs, good shape I'd be thinking maybe around $4000.5040 tractors are not the mot popular tractors around so that can be figured in,good part is they share parts with other AC,Long and Oliver Fiats so parts are easy to come by which isn't the case with many older tractors these days.AS always if you like it and like to use and drive it that is a big plus when buying. Also look what it'd cost to replace it with new these days even at $4000 you'd be at a fraction of the cost of new.

If it looks real good and since it has an Allis loader I would say $5000-6000, based on how crazy tractor prices are this year. And I am partial to the 5040 I have one and love it.

I have a 5050. These are tough little utility tractors. The A-C loader is a big plus. Fiat made them. The 5030 & 5020 are, I think, Japanese. $4000. sounds like a good price provided it runs good & everything works as it should.

I've never seen a 5040 that did not have power steering, same with the Oliver built Fiats. Can't remember any Fiiat built Long tractors that didn't have PS either. The only Fiat of that group models that did not have PS was one that was actually branded Fiat.

Yeah the 5040 Romanian Roadsters were all over the board, 6 speed, 9 speed , 8speed and 12 speed, early fender style and later... as well as tire size and power spread and non... all affect $... also sold under different brands other than AC.

Nothing odd about them, far ahead of US built tractors at the time with different transmission options available including true creeper gears which few if any US built tractors had at the time and differential lock.Italian and Romanian built were basically the same with almost all parts that would interchange.3 and 4 cylinder most of the same parts.About the easiest tractors of that era to find parts for these days and at very reasonable prices compared to other brands.Lots of false information can be found about them on the internet though. Many of the designs and some parts on the New Holland tractors being built today w will interchange. The lift pump on my Oliver 1365 4WD came off the shelf at a NH dealer a couple years ago.

I owned this 5040 for a few years. Bought it at an auction. Put a 6' KingKutter on it. Tough little 40 hp tractor. 3pt system worked great. The PS on it was effortless and never a problem. The 6-speed xmsn (3 gears in 2 ranges) shift lever had quite a lot of slop, but after a while, you got used to it. The upper 2 gears were synchronized; easy shifting. The AC 400 loader was in excellent condition. Normally, I'd remove the bucket when mowing; made it much easier to see and also got unneeded weight off the front end. BTW, the loader is definitely NOT "quick-attach" IIRC, I sold it as shown for $6700. |

The 5040 was built in Romania under license from FIAT by UTB. They marketed tractors in the USA under the LONG brand also. The UTB are a copy of the FIAT. At some point the AC agreement with UTB ended, and the 5045 came to be, and it was indeed FIAT built. The Oliver/MM/White FIAT tractors were not UTB.

True but for all practical purposes, they might as well have been built either place as most of the parts from UTB and Fiat will interchange.I've swapped around parts off Fiat ,AC,Oliver,Long,MM Fiat/UTB they fit like a glove.Matter of fact the UTB starters put on Longs are by far the best and fit all similar models.
