Hello guys I am thinking of a project tractor for going on tractor drives and for a unique show piece. Do you guys have any ideas or has anyone done this? I would be interested in purchasing something with the v8 in it already also. Any photos? Really I am just trying to make up my mind on a few things! Thank you much!

I've seen some. A small block Chevy with a lumpy cam would be cool. For something really unique, I saw a G at the GOTO in 2001 with raised front frame and a front mounted small block Chevy. Same guy had a Chevy powered B. He said that he used to build race cars. Then there was the G with duals a mower deck and a V-8 Olds in the rear at Portland GOTO. You are only limited by imagination.

There are Funk Flathead Ford conversions. I've seen homemade Farm All H and M, Allis Chalmers WC, WD, WD45, B, and C's with V8's. Oliver 77 and 88 with V8,s. Small Block Chevys seem to be the most popular. I drove an Avery at a fun tractor pull with a Ford Ranger Pick UP V6 in it. Lots of fun with a very wide RPM range. They are doggy at low RPM because they don't have low RPM Torque like a tractor engine. Make sure you have good brakes because you'll need them. How about an 8V92 in a D17. Sure wouldn't want to try and pull anything with it, but it would sound good on a cold morning!

My uncle Carl who lived near Buckhorn, MO put an automotive V-8 in a farm tractor a bit larger than a WD45 about 1952. He used the tractor mostly to run a saw with the PTO. He had problems with the engine overheating. At the time I (at age 10) figured the problem was that the car manufacturer depended on air flow from driving down the road at 30 mph or greater cooling the engine block directly and so didn't use as big a water pump (or pair of water pumps). Could very well be that the tractor radiator wasn't capable of holding down the coolant temperature because of fewer fins and tubes than the automobile's original radiator. Might be that building a custom water pump with twice the volume capacity would have solved that problem or working the car radiator into the tractor in place of the tractor radiator.

Saw a 45 diesel chassis with a v12 Seagrave engine in it .Did a decent job.

I seem to remember that Shameless has a V8 Allis, maybe you could make a package deal for it and the pretty machine. Andrew, you could have an old fashioned car smash, you know, 3 hits with a sledge for $5. (on the pretty machine, of course!)

OK, tossing a V8 into a tractor is 'old hat', 'easy peezy', 'boring'.......
Now if you want a UNIQUE ride, toss TWO small diesels,coupled inline into your project. Them 'surplus' VW ones come to mind.
Dependng on room and tractor ,you might get 3 engines to fit.
Yeah, another 'project' I'd like to do but too little time,too little space,too little money....
