I'm wanting to run my WD45 starter with a solenoid rather than the starter-mount button and lever-rod setup. (Why? Im custon building a dash and just want to)
Can I remove that switch and wire in a heavy lead to a big solenoid? |

you will need to replace the switch contact lug with a stud so you can attach a cable to it but yes

Don't know when I'll get back up to the farm, but I did this to my 1940 C and it works just great.
Don't know if you can tell what I did by this picture..... ![]() |

Don't know what TED did, but the original starter has a cam connected to the push rod and the cam pushes the starter contact in... I pushed the cam in manually, then put a 1/4 inch PIN thru it to hold it in place so it could not backoff the switch. Did this on 4-5 tractors.. Only had one that the cam backed off a little and lost contact.. Had to REDO the pin to hold more pressure on the switch. .......... I think I actually had to make a new cam a little larger so I could get the catch pin into place.

NOW that you mention it steve..... I made a new cam piece so that the cam was larger and kept the starter contact IN ALL THE TIME. Then just wired in the solenoid and used a key to start it. SIMPLE!!
THANKS Steve......my memory isn't what it used to be........be what? ![]() |
