hey guys,
if this is a repeat direct me to the proper thread, I couldnt find it searching, so I figured I would post.

I toured the Bonneville Dam up in Oregon today, and I only toured station 1, but luckily the right question asked to a knowledgeable guide informed me that Allis Chalmers built the turbines for Station 2!

I assume they are still at it, since station 1's turbines werent replaced till after the turn of the century.

does anyone have any more info on the subject? sure is interesting to say the least!

AC built lots of turbines for HE power plants, including those at hoover dam, and the biggest, of the time period, Aswan, Egypt. Get a copy of C.H. Wendell's book, The Allis Chalmers Story.

I've toured Hoover Dam and if I remember correctly, the original generators and turbines are still there. They commented that the turbines had been rebuilt and the generators refurbished for increased capacity.

This is a picture I took at Hoover Dam in 2004.  I believe by that time, the original turbines had been renewed and were a little higher horsepower.  This picture was from the museum area at the top of the dam.
